We drove from Deadwood south to the southern end of this scenic drive then started north. The views are both captivating and as my friend says "blood-pressure lowering!" We made a point to find the 3 waterfalls along the way. First was Roughlock which included several well maintained trails and look out points. The second which is very close by... More

We stumbled upon this scenic drive Very winding, but beautiful! We stopped several times including for each of the three waterfalls. Everyone should take the time for the drive if in area.

We were traveling by RV and found the view of the Byway very beautiful. The pull offs were easy to navigate. The waterfalls were worth the drive.

This is one of the best road trips a person can take. The scenery is breath taking. We stopped multiple times along the way for pictures and so the kids could play in the water which is crystal clear. I would not pass up this if you are road tripping, but would recommend the fall even more when the leaves... More

We added some time to a long drive by taking this scenic byway, and it was worth every extra minute. This is one of the most beautiful drives in the world - every bit as breathtaking, in its own way, as driving along the Big Sur coast in California. You'll need to drive slow because of bicycles and hikers, but... More

We enjoyed our day so much traveling the scenic byway. WE stopped at Roughlock Falls and did the one mile (one-way) hike. It was beautiful but basically the same view we saw driving up to the falls. We drove on up the mountain into the Black Hills National Forest. It was very pretty. I wish we would have worn pants... More

followed the scenic byway from Rapid City through Lead, Spearfish, and Deadwood back to Rapid City. Gorgeous Canyons, valleys, streams and waterfalls. Nature at it's best.

We rode through here on our motorcycle in June 2014 and were awed by the beauty. The road is fabulous with its constant turns, twists and great condition. The views are really nice as you ride along the stream. Just watch your speed, as it's 35 mph for almost the entire length. But there's no use going faster because it's... More

This is route 14a. A beautiful side excursion through this verdant canyon. There are pullouts along the way and several hikes. We took the Roughlock Trail - a little over a mile. It wasn't too difficult, but lovely all the way. Bring your binoculars as the birds were very active in the marshy area of the hike.

Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway is a lovely drive---and definitely worth doing if you have time after taking in the scenic byways in Custer State Park. The draw here are the waterfalls. We stopped to see all three. Bridal Veil Falls, which are maybe the most dramatic and easily photographed, can be seen directly next to the roadway. You have to... More
