The scenery is beautiful, especially in the fall. One thing new this year was so many aspen trees bent or broken due to heavy snow last October. The only downside (which wasn't a problem for us) is that people tend to go slow on the highway so they can see the amazing surroundings. There aren't many passing lanes so if... More

We were told that it was a beautiful drive but compared to the Needles highway or Iron Mt. road, it was average and not all that pretty. We saw more fall foliage on the other two drives

It is really worth the time to take this drive. It was so peaceful and beautiful. I loved that there were lots of spots to stop and get out and look or walk around. The best places to stop are the rocky creek sides (especially if you're a rock hunter) and the waterfalls. We went as far as Roughlock Falls,... More

We stayed in Spearfish so we could experience the Spearfish Canyon scenic byway. It was a beautiful drive. The only thing was some areas could have been marked better, if you make a map showing where the areas are, mark them so they can be found.

...especially in the fall with the beautiful leaf color. Great way to go from I-90 into the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore.

probably by this time the colors are spectacular but when we went a few days ago they were just starting to change. I read somewhere this area holds the Guiness book of records for the fastest temperature swing in the shortest time, read up about it, very interesting.

This is a third scenic drive in the Black Hills that is not to be missed. While not as slow-going as the other scenic byways in the area, it is still worth the drive. Lovely views.

Tucked away behind the Latchstring Inn this lovely falls sits. It's the best waterfall in the area. Walk across the iron bridge and a short walk -you will hear the roar.

I enjoyed this year's motorcycle ride through Spearfish canyon even more than usual. They've had adequate rain, and the river was spectacular! Traffic was tolerable, and the weather was perfect. This road is curvy enough to be fun, but not so challenging that you can't look around.
