One of the outstanding drives in America! Take the time and spend half a day. Every turn was something new and exciting and the vistas were great. Well worth the time!

If you are visiting the Black Hills, I highly recommend you drive through Spearfish Canyon. It is absolutely stunning with some short hikes that you can do. We did the Roughlock falls hike - it's very short and waterfall is beautiful. This is where the scene from Dancing of the wolves movie was shot. We visited at the very beginning... More

We detoured through Spearfish Canyon on our way from Medora, ND to Custer, SD. The scenery is spectacular with high canyon walls dotted with pine trees and Spearfish Creek (?) running alongside the highway. There are several pullouts and waterfalls to stop at. Be careful though, the road is curvy and could potentially be heavy with traffic, depending on the... More

The quickest route is not always the best. We took this scenic route to get from Deadwood to Sheridan and glad we took the time to relax. Stopped at Roughlock and Bridal Falls. Enjoyed the canyon sights and stream cutting its way into the valley. Expect this is a favorite place for camping and hiking as the views and peaceful... More

SPECTACULAR VIEWS IN THIS CANYON...This canyon was a little bit of a drive from Mt. Rushmore area, but it was absolutely beautiful and you can drive as slow as you want to see the beauty all around you...there are pull-offs, too. I've never seen such a wonderful sight before...except Mt. Rushmore. The rock formations are spectacular. There are hikes and... More

I love the canyon. It has curvy roads and a speed limit perfect for rolling your windows down. Great hikes including Devil's Bathtub. No trashcans so please reduce the litter by bringing your own bag and putting your waste in there, instead of in the beautiful canyon.

We wish we would have journeyed on this scenic view in the early morning hours instead of mid-afternoon on a Saturday as there was bumper to bumper traffic greatly distracting from what is an unbelievable drive. Even the pull off sites were full. We'll re-do this on a return visit.

My wife and I were heading to Deadwood to drove through Spearfish Canyon and took the opportunity to hike to Roughlock Falls (easy hike and scenic falls) and also to stop and view Bridal Veil falls which you can see from the road. There is a pull out at Bridal Veil falls and a viewing platform built on the opposite... More

We were coming from Sioux Falls and were going to spend a few days in Custer sightseeing. We decided to spend the night in Spearfish instead of Rapid City, then drive thru Spearfish Canyon. We drove thru on a Sunday morning a week after Rally Week, and practically had the place to ourselves. Just beautiful! Winding roads, canyons, mountain streams... More
