Stop and take the hike down into the woods in this area. It is about a mile walk, some a little steep, and is a nice break from the city. The waterfall is about halfway through the area and the mist rolls over you from the water pool and cools you off. Very nice!!

I recommend hiking the 76 trail. Its step but only 1.5 miles round trip. I wore tennis shoes but recommend hiking boots if you have them. Beautiful view from the top.

19 miles @ 35 miles per hour. A great way to slow down and smell the roses, uhhh wildflowers, see the water falls, mountainsides and rocks. Plenty of pullouts and room to visit the falls. Great for picture taking. Easy access to the sites and plenty of hiking trails to the falls if you are energetic. We will return to... More

Do not miss the opportunity to drive this canyon. This place is more stunning and awe inspiring than the Grand Canyon. Additionally, make the effort to go see Roughlock falls. Exquisite

Spearfish Canyon is a lovely drive. If you want somewhere that someone with mobility issues can get close to things, it is Roughlock Falls. The drive takes off from the main road across from the Latchstring Inn Restaurant. This gravel road goes in about a mile until you see several parking areas and plenty of picnic tables. The paths are... More

Spearfish Canyon is an integral part of my life. I came to live in the Black Hills of South Dakota 44 years ago and one of the first places I began to frequent was Spearfish Canyon. I have fished, photographed, hiked, waded, courted my husband, and just driven this stretch of highway over the years. I got to live in... More

This was a super drive with great scenery at every turn. We stopped at Roughlock Falls, and walked back down the boardwalk to see them close up. Saw a red-headed woodpecker! Bridal Veil Falls wasn't really as good (why does every place have a waterfall called this?). Well worth doing, especially if the weather is kind.

We had to "catch the canyon" between rain storms so we missed Rough Lock Falls...but the Canyon is gorgeous at all times of year. Such beauty...a Must See
