A good quick stop to get out and stretch on the way through Sioux Falls. Outside there is a replica of the ships footprint as well as an anchor, guns and signs telling the ships history. The museum inside had interesting memorabilia from the actual ship.

The outside park is marked to show the complete outline of the ship. There is a piece of the teak deck that you can stand on and then read about. My daughter told me that standing on that small piece of wood brought home to her that the ship was a real place with real men in a real war.... More

Really a great find. A very well laid out museum and though it is a little small, it is packed with great objects from the battleship and WWII. A must for any history or military history buff.

We were on a road trip and saw this on the map, we stopped off and it was great you get a real sense of how big the boat was and there are many plaques to read which tells you all the battles it fought in. You are free to walk around and take in the construction of the memorial... More

We weren't able to see the ship as it is underground. It was closed that day. I can't make a review on this one. You will just have to see for yourselves. Hope to see it next time.

The memorial is open every day from 9:30 - 5:30 until the end of September. The door is unlocked and you are welcome to enter and look around. There is nothing underground. The concrete outline in the grass shows how big the ship was. More

Very interesting. Very educational. A lot of about the ship and crew. Excellent large scale model of the ship. Very large pieces of the ship including 16 inch gun barrels.

We thought it was some sort of cheesy fake battleship, only to discover all the actual components that had been salvaged and the incredible number of personal artifacts inside! It was a wonderful surprise for our Memorial Day!

The battleship has a couple of artifacts that are actually from the now scrapped USS South Dakota. I found the small "hatch" interesting, a total weight of several thousand pounds. I liked that a concrete recreation of the shape of the ship allowed me to appreciate how big it was...although with more than 2,000 people on it during combat, it... More

A great memorial to a great battleship of the US Navy. The outline of the ship is massive. Tle history of this ship is unbelievable. It is well worth the time to gain an understanding of the role of this battleship as it served it's country.

While I have an appreciation for any Veterans Memorial, this would not be my choice to bring someone to show. While I understand that the things arranged on the ground are supposed to give you an appreciation of the size of the ship, it just doesn't do anything for me.
