The Great Plains Zoo offers visitors an up-close look at more than 1,000 animals, from anteaters to zebras, penguins to porcupines, and including an exciting animal collection often not found in larger zoos: tigers, snow leopards, giraffes, rhinoceros, flamingoes and a variety of primates. The Zoo also includes the Delbridge Museum of Natural History, a local treasure that houses a rare, one-in-the-world collection of 150 mounted animals, including 36 “vanishing species”.

We love the zoo! The animals are great, but we enjoy the museum and the classes offered along with seasonal fun like zoo boo and breakfast with Santa!

I have visited several zoos throughout the country and frequently visit the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago (which is massive). I wasn't expecting the Zoo in Sioux Falls to be so large. The zoo featured an impressive variety of animals. The grounds are well maintained and the animals appeared to be well taken care of. I was allowed to take photographs... More

My 2 year old really likes this zoo. It's small, and many animals are cooped up in tiny spaces, but we hope in the future this will change.

I have waited almost a month to write this review to see if I still felt the same way as I did when I visited. From the outside the zoo looks very welcoming. The entry staff were polite and cheerful, asking me if I wished to 'round up' my entry fee as a donation to the zoo's upkeep, which I... More

Going into this trip we knew that it was "winter". And we knew that most exhibits were going to be closed and not a lot of Animals were going to be out or willing to move around a lot. We were shocked with how much of this zoo was open. Since we went during the day on a Friday there... More

Great Plains Zoo not only has animals of all kinds large and small, but offers expansive grounds with miles of sidewalks, serene meadows, a forest of trees and peaceful areas to sit and reflect. Staff are around to answer questions about the animals and the zoo. Education programs for children, both at the zoo and with the mobile program, help... More

Over half of the exhibits did not have animals in them. The ticket person never told us that many exhibits were under construction or just didn't have the animals out. Should have been free!

Boasts over 1000 animals. Did not count but seems a little over estimated. Most animals were in dens or sleeping at this time of year. Maybe it is much better in the spring and summer months.

This is a fine zoo but don't expect a lot of bells and whistles for the price. For a family of five (two kids and the baby was free), it cost us over $35. Frustratingly, once in, everything cost still more--from camel rides to the Savannah Express Train Ride to the Mining Sluice to the Carousel. Importantly, plan your visit... More

We came from FL and were impressed by the zoo. Lots to do and see and well kept. Our 2 year old loved it! We were surprised that it was so big for such a snall area! Definitely recommend!
