I say regentrified because RCSD was once a “gentrified” boom town. The Custer Expedition discovered gold in 1874, suggesting that greed prompted the U.S. government claiming expansion was the reason for killing indigenous peoples. This is substantiated by the 1980 US Supreme Court decision re: United States v. Sioux Nation of Indians. The Court ruled that the US government had... More

This area has some cool surprises. The Art Alley blew us all away: it's a modern open air museum / gallery of sorts that has some great, vibrant art. The presidents are really cool too. Town square and parking lot is perfectly located. Bike shop is great too.

Downtown Rapid has a lot of things going on. It is definitely a fun and busy downtown. Plenty of shops, dining, bars, and more. Some great sculptures dot the downtown area.

The downtown are always seems to be bustling with activity. There are many cute shops and good restaurants in the area. The President sculptures always attract attention and are beautifully done. The square itself has plenty of outdoor seating where you can enjoy coffee or a cool drink and a meal. It's always fun to watch the kids run through... More

Rapid City has a cozy classic downtown. Good restaurants line the streets as well as good places to get a drink. People are very friendly too. The prices are a little high but it's clean and not over run with panhandlers.

Normal tourists city downtown. Corners have past presidents on them which is kind of cool. Plenty of places to walk in and out of as well as the downtown park that has some fun things happening for everyone.

On a previous trip we blew straight past Rapid City and came to regret it ! Luckily with a bit more time we got to enjoy what was on offer. Parked the car and off we went. Had a great lunch at the Fire House then strolled up & down each street as fancy took us. We even spent time... More

My teens like to experience places through their smart phones, taking picture after picture to share with friends. Downtown offered two hours with lots to see and document. Just meander for a couple of hours. They loved exploring the presidents statues and other art. They enjoyed the surprise of what the next shop window would have. Most of all, they... More

I saw an episode where Rachael ray had eaten here[40.00 dollars a day show] so we gave it a try while we were on vacation in the black hills. We enjoyed it and had great service and real good food. Neat old firehouse turned into a restaurant.

We're glad you enjoyed the Firehouse Brewing Company in Downtown Rapid City! It's a great restaurant! Did you try the dish that Rachel Ray selected, the Spontaneous Heating Gumbo? We hear she enjoyed it! More
