On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture. « less

The Art Gallery on the third floor has a unique sculpture all in white, and a variety of contemporary and native art which decorate the nicely restored building. The gallery reminded me of a fun art museum. The shop portion has clothes, hides, jewelry, and many souvenirs.

Prairie Edge occupies three historic buildings in downtown Rapid City. The largest was a furniture store and an undertaker (a common combination back in the early days), a saloon and brothel (complete with burn marks in the floor in the corner where the spittoon was located), and a mercantile. The buildings have been beautifully preserved and restored and are filled... More

I'm a devoted admirer of Native American art, so we were delighted to find Prairie Edge in downtown Rapid City some years ago. Now we stop there any time that we get anywhere near Rapid City. I had long admired paintings of many colored wild horses racing across the pages of old fashioned ledgers -- wild horses on ledger pages... More

We travel to South Dakota frequently on business. But it isn't all work and no play! We've been coming to Prairie Edge and its associated Sioux Trading Post for over 15 years. It is in the heart of downtown, near great shops and restaurants, and parking is rarely an issue -- and when it is, a visit is worth the... More

Found this shop just walking around and so glad we did. There are so many authentic Native things to buy! The store stretches for seemingly a block and is well worth visiting. Clothing, bead work and other Native crafts are available. If you search carefully you can find something for the right price! Its almost like walking into a museum.... More

We had heard that a particular good shop was located on the corner of 6th street and main in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota. It stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block. The brick, wood and glass storefront has been restored to its original 19th century glory, and its name is Prairie Edge Trading where exclusive... More

We were taken aback by the lovely downtown in Rapid City. Finding the Prairie Edge Galleries was a special treat. They have mostly the highest quality Indian art and can be viewed as both a museum and an excellent place to buy. Prices are high as one might expect, but quality seems to be assured. A bonus is the attached... More

The sales people were very friendly and knowledgeable. SO much to view and choose from. Excellent craftsmanship. We purchased several large art items, which were reasonably priced, and they mailed everything in 3 large boxes for $30. Everything arrived in excellent condition. Includes furniture, books, cds in addition to artwork and crafts. Three floors.

A gorgeous restored old building housing some amazing and beautiful Native American art and cultural products! An emotional experience actually to see so much beautiful work by so many talented artists/artisans. The staff was pleasant, helpful and engaging. Very knowledgeable not only about the artists and Native American history and culture, but about the building and local history and attractions.... More
