On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture. « less

What a wonderful store. As another reviewer put it: "Like shopping in a museum. " This is not a discount place and there is no "junk" sold here. Only top drawer goods at prices reasonable for what you get. Definitely worth the visit even if you only window shop.

A cornucopia of all things indian in the area. Jewelery, beadwork, books, prints etc. as well as wonderful displays of indian bison robes and other items. Worth the time to investigate and see even if you don't buy.

We stopped in the Prairie Edge Trading Co at the end of our trip to buy presents to take home. Thank goodness! It has the best quality and range of merchandise I saw anywhere in South Dakota, Wyoming, or Montana. A very patient salesperson on the jewelry counter helped me make my final decisions. And the salesperson in the crafting... More

Prairie Edge was one of the highlights of our trip to the Dakotas. It is a huge store and art gallery where hundreds of Native American reproductions are displayed and sold. If you are interested in Native American history and culture, this is a must see when in Downtown Rapid City. I am normally not a shopper, but spent over... More

A must stop and see store if you are in the area! Make it a point to stop by this store. This is the store we buy all of our Native American craft supplies from. They also added a herb selection and I am totally hooked on these now! I always have to walk threw the whole store to see... More

This unique store embodies great works of art for the culture of Native Americans. On staff historians it seems like very informational. Beautiful gallery inside and out. Love the history of the building and the beautiful gift selection inside. Beware if you go to have at least an hour to spend, you will not want to leave.

I had the pleasure of being introduced and guided through Prairie Edge by a Lakota friend of mine. I was blown away!! Yes there are gifts and things; but also things you would never expect. We were going to the Firehouse Brewing Company restaurant when my wife spotted this gallery of Native American objects/artwork/handicrafts/etc. To say this is a spectacular collection is an understatement. There are paintings, decorated animal hides, blankets, headdresses, and much more. I looked at many of the prices, and they didn't seem all that unreasonable to me, not that I was... More
