On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture. « less

Everything in the store is simply beautiful! The gorgeous custom-made jewelry and Native American items are amazing. If the visitor to Rapid City is looking for quality pieces this is where to shop. Highly Recommended.

This one of a kind location is a combination of fine art gallery, retail store, and amazing resource for Native American craft work. They have the most amazing collection of raw materials, such as turtle shells, deer sinew, porcupine quills, and an incredible collection of Italian glass beads - hundreds of jars arranged by color, in a "library" of beads. You... More

This was by far the nicest shopping to be found in Rapid City - and in general the prices reflect that. There was a wide variety of merchandise for sale - Pendleton blankets and clothing, animal parts (buffalo teeth, antlers, bones, hides, etc), Native American crafts/clothing/weapons/musical instruments/etc, beautiful artwork and furniture, etc. There is also a pretty good selection of... Every time we visit a stop is required at Prairie Edge. Awesome location next to the Firehouse and the main street square area. If you need to buy a gift while on vacation this is a great place for it. From the glass beads, to the furniture, to the unique Native art, you can't miss this place. They have a... More

Prairie Edge was recommended to us as THE store for shopping if you are looking for unique gifts in Rapid City. The store has many beautiful Native American finds. I purchased several "one of a kind" pieces of jewelry created by local artists as gifts for family and couldn't be happier. The service is excellent...friendly, attentive and informative. They go... I'm from the area but once in a while, I love to take time & admire the beautiful artwork made by locals & other tribes! Sometimes I buy my supplies for my own artwork that I make as gifts.

What a wonderful store. As another reviewer put it: "Like shopping in a museum. " This is not a discount place and there is no "junk" sold here. Only top drawer goods at prices reasonable for what you get. Definitely worth the visit even if you only window shop.

A cornucopia of all things indian in the area. Jewelery, beadwork, books, prints etc. as well as wonderful displays of indian bison robes and other items. Worth the time to investigate and see even if you don't buy.

We stopped in the Prairie Edge Trading Co at the end of our trip to buy presents to take home. Thank goodness! It has the best quality and range of merchandise I saw anywhere in South Dakota, Wyoming, or Montana. A very patient salesperson on the jewelry counter helped me make my final decisions. And the salesperson in the crafting... More

Prairie Edge was one of the highlights of our trip to the Dakotas. It is a huge store and art gallery where hundreds of Native American reproductions are displayed and sold. If you are interested in Native American history and culture, this is a must see when in Downtown Rapid City. I am normally not a shopper, but spent over... More
