To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

This is like an art gallery (for free) , museum and shop all in one. The staff were so wonderful and helpful in explaining individual pieces and the collection in general. They encourage you to take photos, unlike most native art shops.

Each area of this store brought new and interesting experiences. I loved the paper sculptures on the second floor and the Mexican art works on the first floor

Local institution, nothing like it elsewhere. Native-made goods, powwow CDs, half a ton of beads of every color, buffalo hides and robes, buy sage, sweetgrass, and tobacco bundles. Beautiful vistas from there almost Escher-like system of stairs. We go in there a lot, never disappoints.

So much unbelievable art work you cannot see anywhere else. Spent 2 hours but could have spent all day. Do not miss the Sticks furniture or the paper sculptures.

They have everything plains Native American related you can think of from inexpensive trinkets to museum-quality Sioux artwork including war shirts and pictorial bison skins. If I ever win the LOTO, I will have to return and spend some cash. It was very easy to find close free parking, even in an RV.

We went in to see if we could buy a leather belt as my husband forgot to pack one. He found a cloth one that liked better and has been wearing it since. We also looked at the pottery, jewelry, Native American furniture and arts, and the gallery of art on the second floor. We ended up purchasing two prints... More
