Owner description: To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

I am an avid fan and collector of Native American artworks and this is one of my favorite galleries to visit. There are several floors of beautiful art and supplies to browse through. The staff is always friendly and encourage you to spend as much time as you can in the gallery. There is just so much to see!

This was my 3rd time in Rapid City and 3rd time at Prairie Edge. I always find something new to admire. This time the lady behind the counter in the Sioux arts display area explained a lot of the beadwork to me. I'd had a vague idea that the beadwork on animal hides told stories, but to have her explain... More

As you're walking thru Rapid City this store deserves a visit. We don't usually rate individual stores, but this has to be an exception. It's a store/museum of Indian handcrafts and western art. Done very well. Staff is very informative, very helpful. Surprisingly we did see some things that looked like they were handcrafted by Native Americans but, alas, turned... More

This one of a kind location is a combination of fine art gallery, retail store, and amazing resource for Native American craft work. They have the most amazing collection of raw materials, such as turtle shells, deer sinew, porcupine quills, and an incredible collection of Italian glass beads - hundreds of jars arranged by color, in a "library" of beads. You... More

This was by far the nicest shopping to be found in Rapid City - and in general the prices reflect that. There was a wide variety of merchandise for sale - Pendleton blankets and clothing, animal parts (buffalo teeth, antlers, bones, hides, etc), Native American crafts/clothing/weapons/musical instruments/etc, beautiful artwork and furniture, etc. There is also a pretty good selection of... Every time we visit a stop is required at Prairie Edge. Awesome location next to the Firehouse and the main street square area. If you need to buy a gift while on vacation this is a great place for it. From the glass beads, to the furniture, to the unique Native art, you can't miss this place. They have a... More

Prairie Edge was recommended to us as THE store for shopping if you are looking for unique gifts in Rapid City. The store has many beautiful Native American finds. I purchased several "one of a kind" pieces of jewelry created by local artists as gifts for family and couldn't be happier. The service is excellent...friendly, attentive and informative. They go... I'm from the area but once in a while, I love to take time & admire the beautiful artwork made by locals & other tribes! Sometimes I buy my supplies for my own artwork that I make as gifts.
