To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

I know that this store seems to be interesting to most folks, but as a local I just see it as over-priced and over-appreciated. Maybe the best part of the store is its book section on the second floor.

This is one of those stores that has many interesting items for sale that you don't see anywhere else. We spent an hour or so just browsing. Didn't buy a thing, but still enjoyed the unique pieces of furniture, jewelry and home decor. The building itself is a big part of the appeal here, beautiful wooden floor, staircase, lots of... Very nice things in here, and very expensive prices. It's fascinating just to look, and may as well be a museum in its own right!

Love to stroll through whenever I am in downtown Rapid City. It is a pleasure to appreciate the fine art and cultural contributions given to us by our Native American brothers and sisters.

We have visited this unique marketplace many times over the past decade or two and the range and quality of diverse offerings from art to Native American handicrafts is superb. I love the jewelry and arts.

A great combination of Native American art along with respect for the culture and history of these artists. This is the best collection of Native American work in the Black Hills area-Crazy Horse Memorial very good, a must visit- but this more extensive. Most of our travels are dedicated to areas where we can connect to different Native cultures by... More

This is one of our favorite places to stop in Rapid City. It is like going to a Western and Lakota museum and art gallery. It features many different types of art ranging from jewelry, paintings, carvings, furniture, buffalo and deer hides, ceremonial drums, dress and headgear. It also has a bookstore and a very impressive gallery of beads. And... More
