15+- years ago the Opera House sustained significant fire damage. Although the restoration has along ways towards completion, the work completed and/or in progress is well worth the time of the traveler to visit history. Photos, paintings and other exhibits are available to view. Check on opera house entertainment schedule prior to arrival. Very good local talent.

A 1914 building that is being restored, it's a must see if you love history or the performing arts. They have lots of performances all year haven't seen a bad show yet. The tours are great and if your lucky enough to get the Executive Director you will get a treat to hear her sing and the sound it the... More

This place is so warm and inviting and the theater area is just amazing to see. The restoration that is being completed makes the theater look even more appealing. Sarah, is the perfect guide and she tends to the Opera house like it is her own, which in a lot of ways, it is. Even though she treats you like... More

The Historic Homestake Opera House tour is a must for anyone visiting the Black Hills. It's well worth the time. Although the street construction makes it necessary to enter the Opera House from the back, that simply means that you'll see some of the historic photos as you enter. While the restoration after a devastating fire in 1984 is a... More

The tour I took of the Opera House was the highlight of my trip to the Black Hills. Sarah did a terrific job of explaining the history, the fire and the restoration of this beautiful opera house. You will learn the history of Lead and Homestake Mining Company because it is all tied up in the opera house....." The jewel... More

What a wonderful venue...it's a must see even for a tour or if you get the chance see one of the performances that take place on the stage, you won't regret it.

The docent for our visit was also a board member and had lots of information to impart about the origins, fire, and current restoration project. This was a complete recreation center in the big days of the Homestake mine, with bowling lanes below, a library, etc. They have come a long way in the restoration, which many parts of the... More

Still a work in progress to restore following a devastating fire in the 1980s. However, much of the original architecture can been seen, and the exterior structure remains largely intact. A beautiful old building.

First time here for the Lawrence Welk parody show. This place is full of history, currently under restoration, you can still see the black residue from the fire thru out the stage and ceiling.

We're very glad you were able to attend the Champagne Variety Show, as it's one of our annual fundraisers we get to feature on the stage. The performers have a great time with it - especiall 'Lorrence Velk.' Thank you for the review. See you again soon. More

When we visited here to see a play, the theatre was still being restored after a very bad fire, but you could see how great this place was, and hopefully will be again. Very cool venue.
