If you're a bike rider, this trail is made for you. It is amazing what they have provided for hikers and bikers who want to get out and away from it all. We only covered parts of the trail but, the small sections we did were amazing. I especially enjoyed the area around Lead. Even got to see an old... More

This trail is not for sissies. You are going either up hill a 3% grade or downhill. The upgrade of 3% isn't bad however it can go on for about 5 miles. That being said it is well worth it. The view is awesome. If you thing you can't handle the 3% uphill they have a shuttle in Hill City... More

I've ridden the Mickelson Trail many times, and many different sections. Rode from Deadwood to Hill City once with my brothers, son and nephews. Great fun! Its not a single track mountain bike trail but pea gravel converted railroad track. Some of the best sections are near Mystic and Rochford. Many bridges and tunnels. One of our best short afternoon... More

The Mickelson Trail is not only a fun bike ride but it is beautiful. The scenery along the trail is spectacular as well as wildlife sightings. Along the trail are tunnels, bridges and waterfalls. I have loved riding this trail every year. A fun break for lunch is a stop in the tiny town of Rochford where you can visit... More

My husband and I ride quite a bit but this trail almost did us in. We started in Hill City and rode north. It is either all uphill, or all downhill. There are no flat spots. We have hybrid bikes and I wouldn't recommend riding with anything but a mountain bike, there are too many places where the gravel is... More

Well Marked, Fun for all levels. I prefer the Deadwood side but you can't go wrong with any area of the trail!

We left our car at the Mystic Road Trailhead and had Rabbit Bike shuttle us to the Dumont Trailhead. The trail was almost all downhill or level, so the ride was easy, very peaceful and beautiful. The staff at Rabbit was exceptional. We brought our own bikes, but the bikes they rent seem very well maintained. This is a great... More

We visited the Hills for nearly two wks in late Sept 2012 to bike the Trail. My hubby is an avid rider and I am a newbie to biking---think learning to drive a car when middle aged. Comments: 1. If doing most/all the Trail Deadwood and Hill City are two spots to stay---4 nts in Deadwood and 7 nts in... More

I ride, hike, walk, run sections of this trail weekly, it never gets old! If you listen carefully you can hear the past!
