Allow 3-4 hours for the tour, panning lesson and panning. The tour is led by the owner's eldest son who helped with the restoration of the original mining machinery. It all works. If you enjoy tinkering with engines, this is the place for you. You really leave with an understanding of how the gold was extracted from the rivers, mines,... More

Our family stopped here around 3:30 on our last day of 6 in the the black hills area. Our children, ages 6,7.9,&12 all loved their experience. My wife & I were thrilled to watch each of our kids learn how to pan for gold. They were superb at explaining to each child's age & ability the "art" of panning! The... More

My 8 yr old wanted to pan for gold and this was the perfect spot for that. He got to pan in an actual creek and not just in a trough with water in it like many other places. Everyone that worked their was very nice. Don't expect anything fancy, but plan on having a good time and learn how... More

We visited this on our last morning in the Black Hills and we are really glad we did so. It was very interesting and the panning was good fun. It is a shame that this place does not receive more visitors although it was nice to be away from the crowds of Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Very informative and... More

This was a neat experience. After getting the history of Deadwood for two days we travelled on to Custer but first stopped to see what gold panning is all about etc. found the place online from other TA reviews. This is Not a fancy place. It's a mom & pop run family business. Very welcoming people. We only wanted to... More

It is so nice to visit an attraction where the operators really want their guests to have a good time. Wade's is that kind of place. They really want you to learn about panning for gold. They take the time to teach you well and they make sure that you take home some gold. The prices are reasonable and the... More

We stopped by wanting to learn how to pan for gold. A woman named Sis was our "instructor". She was funny, attentive and a very good teacher. We found gold and lots of garnets. It was a total blast. Go in the gift shop and talk to the woman from Sweden, she sells things for you to use making jewelry... More

The staff was helpful, informative, personable, with my "spirited" 3yo daughter, encouraging with my 8yo son. We got all of the individual attention one could ever expect. I would have liked to stay longer and pan for more gold, but it was hot, and the littlest ones were done after about an hour. It was nice to learn a new... More

This family business was a fun time for our vacation! We were all able to take an informative lesson on how to use our pans, then dig some dirt to go sift through in the creek. A must try if you are in the area!

This place is great because it is authentic. It is family run for about 80 years. We learned how to pan. Did not find much gold, but found pretty rocks and garnets. The person helping us was very knowledgeable. Just an fyi, you need to take off your shoes and socks to sit on a bench in the stream. It... More
