My two teen boys had the best time. We all learned first hand, the proper way to pan for gold. No one will strike it rich here with money, but, the knowledge and kindness these folks bestow on their customers is rich memories. We visited early when things were just starting and weather was cool. Wonderful explanations and correcting our... More

This was almost a three star review, but I felt a little bad giving it that, as it was pretty fun. We went on basically the last day of the season and came about the time they were going to take the very last folks panning. We missed the tour, unfortunately. We got to watch a movie about the history... More

Okay, when we first pulled up we didn't know if this was the place to be. It has a lot of older buildings and machinery around and not much for signage. But the people and the experience was so nice. Our mining guide met us at the car and welcomed us in. For $11 a piece we spent probably 2... More

We wanted to learn about gold panning and this was the place for it! Not only do they have a nice gift shop, they have an area outside, under an enclosure where one is taught how to pan. Then one is given the option to shed socks and shoes and actually sit on a bench in the stream and with... More

We visited on our family vacation. Do not let the appearance food you! It felt less touristy because of its authentic buildings and materials. We were educated on the history and even left a little gold and jewels. Our 9& 11 year old loved the experience!! People were nice as well!

Gold panning here was great for little kids. Initially we thought the place was a bit run down and overpriced. But the personal service and attention by a seasoned crew of rock hounds makes it well worth the money and 1.5 hours spent learning how to pan. My preschoolers simply loved it.

The only place to see a real gold mill in operation plus lots of old mining equipment. The owners built the entire contraption and are a wealth of knowledge on history and geology. Skip the glitz and play in the dirt that made history!

Allow 3-4 hours for the tour, panning lesson and panning. The tour is led by the owner's eldest son who helped with the restoration of the original mining machinery. It all works. If you enjoy tinkering with engines, this is the place for you. You really leave with an understanding of how the gold was extracted from the rivers, mines,... More

Our family stopped here around 3:30 on our last day of 6 in the the black hills area. Our children, ages 6,7.9,&12 all loved their experience. My wife & I were thrilled to watch each of our kids learn how to pan for gold. They were superb at explaining to each child's age & ability the "art" of panning! The... More

My 8 yr old wanted to pan for gold and this was the perfect spot for that. He got to pan in an actual creek and not just in a trough with water in it like many other places. Everyone that worked their was very nice. Don't expect anything fancy, but plan on having a good time and learn how... More
