From the moment we pulled into the seemingly ramshackle gold mill, we were greeted by a friendly and helpful staff member. My six year old was so excited to pan for gold, and I was prepared to pay $10 for her to get a pan and sift for ten minutes, probably to lose the little flakes in the process. We... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit us, and post about your experience! We're so glad that you enjoyed the experience! We do try to make sure all our guests have a great time. You're definitely right, that the really young kids often do the best "sharing" a lesson with an adult. Hope you have a wonderful... More

I was looking for a more personal experience than what I had heard of the larger gold mines outside of Deadwood and Lead. This is a family owned working mine. Bob, the original owner's son, was the most patient teacher. He is very knowledgeable and takes you step by step through the panning process. I absolutely loved this experience. It... More

Awesome place! Best $20 we spent on our trip. Couldn't believe the value we got out of this. Bob and his staff showed us exactly how to pan for gold! Service like this is unheard of these days! It was personable, interesting, and the thought of striking gold was pretty cool too! We got some gold and lots of cool... More

We wanted to go to Wade's, but it is closed. I checked the website and it says closed for family health issues.

This was a wonderful way to spend a couple hours. Went with my husband and 13 year old son. We did the panning lesson and then panned in the creek. We loved it. Was a lot of fun. The tour was given by the 72 year old owner Bob Wade. What a charming man. His parents built, owned and operated... More

We spent several hours there with our grandkids and they had a fantastic time. Bob and Gary were patient and explained every step in the process. Strongly recommend Wade's Mill. Great value for the money.

On vacation with teens and I remember panning for gold with my grandparents when we traveled through 30 years ago. I'd seen quite a few advertised flashy places but I wanted the "old time" feel and to actually be able to pan for gold! I found Wade's here on TripAdvisor and decided it was just the place I was looking... More

If you are at all thinking of trying out gold panning while visiting the black hills, this is the place to go. Took my family (kids 10,12,13) who had a blast. This is a low key, family owned business. After viewing a short movie, you are given a choice whether to get a tour of the old mining equipment/process, or... More

The only thing our six year-old talked about before coming to the Black Hills from Chicago was panning for gold, so we decided to make it our first stop on our first morning. Wade's far surpassed any expectations we might have had for this. We actually spent three hours panning for gold and touring the museum. The place is family... More

We spent a lovely, peaceful 90 minutes at Wade's Gold Mill. The four of us took the panning lesson and then panned our bowl full of dirt. Bob was very patient with us and encouraging - it's harder than it looks. The teenage boys (15 and 17) enjoyed the experience very much. We didn't do the mill tour. This is... More
