My husband, age 64, signed up for a 6 hour private climbing lesson with Sylvan Rocks Climbing School. His instructor , Chris, was great. First they give you shoes, helmets, harness. Then you walk around behind the lake and practice climbing 2 rocks about 60 feet, then we moved on (I was watching and recording)to another larger structure where they... More

Great experience and worth every penny! Couldn't ask for a better guide than Cheyenne; he was fun, patient, and encouraging. He taught my two brothers and I so much. Looking forward to coming back next summer and climbing Devils Tower!

My son and granddaughter had a wonderful time and the instructors were great. There was a family with two small boys (9 and 7) in our beginner party and the instructors were very patient and encouraging with not only the older climbers but also with the young kids. Everyone got to climb as much as they wanted. Climbing to 50... More

They were right on time. Had new equipment. Very educational and safe. Enjoyed the company and information from my quide Taylor. In the coming years I hope to come back and climb Devils Tower with them!

We spent 6 hours climbing with Daryl and Harrison near Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park. My wife, 3 kids (ages 6,8,11), and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. They're very professional and we never felt unsafe for the first time climbers that we were. The guides were great with kids and pushed all of us to do more than... More

I had the pleasure of getting a one on one experience with my guide, Jeff. The entire day was a treat--Jeff was amicable, knowledgable, and a great teacher. He refreshed my memory on some basic skills, and taught me a whole array of new ones, and in a fun, approachable way that made it easy to retain all of the... More

We took our whole family rock climbing (kids aged 6-16), plus my mother who was 72 and the guides were phenomenal! They catered to each of our individual needs and made sure those that wanted to be challenged were and those that wanted to take it easy were able to, but still had fun. It was absolutely gorgeous, a fun,... More

Our family of 6 climbed with Sylvan from 8-4 today. Our guides, Jeff and Spud were amazing. After getting our gear and getting us situated we did a short hike to the rocks on the back of Sylvan Lake. The guides set up 5 climbs, easy to hardest and did the instruction training on the easier climb. After we all... More

My two kids, ages 12 and 11, wanted to rock climb and we saw their trailer while in Custer State Park. We called an signed up for today. It was awesome and our instructor, Jeff, was great and taught us a lot and challenged us until we ran out of gas. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested and... More

While we were in the Black Hills, we wanted to give our kids a unique experience. After driving the Needles Highway, we thought that rock climbing might be a lot of fun. My husband and I took our three kids rock climbing for the first time. They are 6,9, and 11. Our guide, Tony, did an amazing job making us... More
