My family and I spent one night in Deadwood. We really enjoyed our day. We visited the Mount Moriah cemetery. We enjoyed a nice walk and visited several graves including Wild Bill and Calamity Jane. Our favorite part of the visit was the live action reenactments. The actors did a great job. Due to floods and two fires the town... More

Writing this in the hope that Deadwood Chamber of Commerce/Tourism department takes it on board. Currently, some barely-heard street theatrics, gambling and gift stores. Advice: 1. Close most of main street to cars (at least during main visitor hours). 2. Have horse drawn Carriage rides... Where WAS the Deadwood stage...huge missed opportunity! 3. Have 'visitor center' stores and scenes where... More

We expected a real Wild West experience and were badly disappointed. The only industry seems to be the casinos. We were not interested in gambling and the town has nothing else. The buildings are not authentic. The tour of the cemetery is well-advertised but you can experience it by reading the detailed description of it which explains the different people... More

Do yourself a favor and start your visit to Historic Deadwood with a stop by the History and Information Center (located in the old railway station). The helpful folks on duty will provide an orientation map and recommend things to do. Given our time constraints, we decided to grab the walking tour brochure, which is a self-guided "Trail to Deadwood's... More

We spent around four hours taking in the shoot out reenactments and the businesses. We really didn't find it to be that great. My pre-teen son thought it was pretty "lame." My husband and I agreed. Unless you are into gambling, I'm not sure it's really worth your time to go.

The town was nice to see but ti is mostly casino's and bars. There is not much shopping here like we expected. Were glad we came here to see it but we wont be back.

but avoid it during the Sturgis Rally. The buildings are interesting late gold rush structures and the local museums (including those in Lead) are most interesting. It has changed over the last 30 years, i.e., casinos, but they have kept the town alive and preserved on the exteriors of these classic structures. The food has always been great!

Unless you are there to gamble, this town did not offer much. We were traveling with two children, 10 and 7, and they were terribly bored. Because many of the places were attached to casinos, we didn't even enter.

We nearly didn't bother, as reviews implied Deadwood was all casinos now. But we went - parked by the information booth and a VERY officious woman gave us the maps and information we need. She really needs to brush up on her customer service skills! We took the trolley bus into town, then walked back. The driver was lovely and... More

It is my favorite town to visit in the area. I have been there 3 times, but it has always been while we were attending the Sturgis Rally, Deadwood is one of the top places to visit during the rally and it is always packed! I would love to come back some day when the rally isn't going on.
