The Wild West

This town is well worth a visit. Get a feel for the Wild West as it is being carefully restored. The trip up to Boot Hill was beyond U.S. Which I now regret.

Came back twice! Do take a tour with a in the "Original Location of Saloon No. 10" for $5. She will tell you a little history and a story of how and where Bill Hickok died and show you where supposing the spot he was shot. She will also tell you some other spots to visit. The other "Saloon no.... More

The town was founded on Gold, Booze, Gambling and Women. I guess one can say it has not changed a whole lot. History here is alive, all one needs to do is spend some time and look.

This is my third trip to Deadwood, and it seems to get more commercial over time. You really have to search to find the history of the town. It just looks like an excuse for casinos. As they keep raising the gambling limits, the town loses more and more of its considerable charm.

Historic Old Town is a quiet place if the Autumn Nights isn't in town. We were here during the car show and auctions. Live bands in the street... bring your folding chair early to claim your spot for later. It was fun and enjoyable to look around at this small town. Everyone was friendly. I would go off season too... More

It's a little bit cowboy, a little bit Wild West and a lot of fun with some obvious tourist traps thrown in but really a lovely town.

We've been traveling through several old west towns and Deadwood has been our hands down favorite. Deadwood Alive performances are amazing and there is lots to see and do. Make sure to check out the trial of Jack McCall!

If you're into history buff stuff, Downtown Deadwood has the stories for you. Go by the "Oyster bar / casino" to the side of it you'll see what looks like flattened marbles on ground placed there. When you look around that area look down, everywhere you see below you is "old Deadwood" They've re built the entire town 3 times,... More

It's mostly casinos and restaurants within them. Part of Main Street was blocked off while we were there to make room for a concert and a dog long jump competition. Lots of road construction going on just off Main, making it very difficult to get to other businesses and sites.
