This place is great. It is located on the actual homestead of the Ingalls family of Little House on the Prairie fame. It is so simple and quiet. If you have read the books, you will understand everything. The dug-out house makes an impression. My family had a blast re-enacting the olden days in the schoolhouse. All of the interpreters... This is a wonderful place for a family vacation! My family and I have stayed at the Homestead five times and now, as a senior in high school, I look back on it with fond memories. The staff is personable and care about what they do and what they are preserving. This place is perfect for the imagination of children... More

I don't really remember this place, but it was fun. We went as a school field trip and I remember it was full of adventure and rich, Midwest history.

Gave a real sense of what it was like in South Dakota during that time. The reconstruction of the sod house, barn and the Ingall's home were especially interesting.

It felt like feel life back when Laura and her family were living and working on the claim. The person in the visitor center was very friendly and informative.

We had a good time and glad we made the extra time visiting this remarkable place. The horse and wagon ride out to the school and back was lots of fun. Loved looking at the cabins that the Ingalls once lived in and how they lived in the 1800's.

The people who worked here were so gracious and welcoming. My children loved the covered wagon ride, and the curricles. They enjoyed the barn kittens and chicks, and seeing the calf. One of the kids who worked there told me the owners try to make it a nice experience for them, as well as for the public, and it showed.... More

My 10 year old daughter and I visited in early July and had a very nice time. We stayed in a covered wagon and found it very clean and comfortable. The only problem was that people visiting the homestead kept using our picnic table to eat their meals. My daughter loved the homestead and was able to run around the... More

This is the actual land that Pa took out and proved up as a homesteader, the same original 160 acres has been owned by 30 different people and yet was never divided. For the last 15 years the current owners have recreated the farm that Pa and Ma and Mary and Laura and Carrie and Grace would have lived on.... More
