Only the face of this memorial is completed and while the expected outcome should be spectacular, right now it's not very impressive. The history and cultural information available is impressive though and worth some time viewing if you decide to stop anyway because you are in the area. I'm not sure when this memorial is scheduled to be completed, but... more

Seeing the grand scale of Crazy Horse, I found it more impressive than Mount Rushmore. Though, I admit a lot of that is in what Crazy Horse leaves to the imagination--you have to imagine what it will look like finished. But Mount Rushmore is an unfinished monument too. The facilities are nice. I didn't pay the extra fee to take... more

First, this is privately owned- not a US Monument, so no yearly passes will apply here. The US Parks Dept has offered money & assistance to finish the monument, but has been refused more than once. The monument is nowhere near complete and didn't even compare (visually or historically) to our visits to Mt Rushmore (which is not bigger, but... more

We went in the evening to see the monument closer, explore the museum, participate in their version of the Junior Ranger program and to see the lightshow. I'm glad we did more than just drive by, which is what I've done the past few times I've been to South Dakota. The photo that I'm including will show you how close... more

We just returned from Crazy Horse and enjoyed it very much. I came away better educated on the Native American people and with high regard for this memorial. I think it is nice that a huge endeavor such as this is being funded through private donations instead of federal money or taxpayer dollars. That is the reason it is taking... more

When compared with the admission cost of Mt Rushmore, its roughly 2-3 times as expensive to get in (for two people). Also, since its an active sculpture you cant get nearly as close as you can at Mt Rushmore. If you are short on time, or not interested in rock carvings, I would see Mt Rushmore instead of this. The... more

We brought our 10 and 12 year old boys to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore. Altough this was and important piece of history, we found the Crazy Horse Memorial to be much more entertaining and historical. The Memorial is entirely non profit and is being constructed with private funds. We learned about native American culture and history as well... more

My wife and I just got back from seeing Crazy Horse Monument and the surrounding area and I have to ask myself if they are truly wanting to get this monument finished. They told of the millions of dollars the Fed. Gov. offerd to give to help finish this and the family and board of directors turned them down for... more

The "monument" of Crazy Horse is visible from the road and if you only want to see the carving of the mountain, I would recommend viewing it from outside the gates - especially since they charge $10 a person to get in ($27 a carload)! The price is probably that high because the sculpting of Crazy Horse is privately funded... more

This is a facility that is intented to support the family of the original sculptor and several vendors selling what appears to be Native American Indian crafts. Much of it was beautiful, and I'm sure was handmade. I'm not convinced the hands were from this continent. But the prices reflected local labor. Supposedly some of the money goes back to... more
