If you're in the Myrtle Beach area, looking for experiences outside the usual beach visits, mini golf, and boardwalk browsing (not that all that isn't great), check out Black River Outdoors Center! They offer tours of varying lengths in several different areas. Our group had a mix of first time paddlers and those with a little more practice, kids and... More

Mandy was our magnificent guide! Funny, knowledgeable, very patient! The pic she posted of us on the site was more than generous as we couldn't get the knack of kayaking very quickly. She made us look like professionals. We saw and held snakes, learned about the egret parents guarding their nests, and also about the slaves descendents that still live... More

Brought a group of 17 high school kids and three chaperones to Georgetown, SC to help construct a house for Habitat for Humanity. Group is from upstate NY, and kids were on Spring Break, anxious for warm weather as we had a tough winter(!). Found Black River Tours online and sent them an email. They responded immediately and set us... More

Fantastic! This was the first time my husband and I kayaked and Spaz and Mandy did a wonderful job explaining everything. They were very knowledgeable and so much fun. Mandy went out of her way to make sure we saw and held as many creatures as she could find. Spaz was a hoot as well! We will definitely book with... More

We took the two hour cypress tour with Mandy and Spaz and it was informative and worth every penny. We saw turtles and birds and snakes and had a nice paddle down the river. It's worth the money and doesn't even seem like two hours. It's an informative paddle and the guides were amazing. The swamp is a nice place... More

My husband and I did the 4 hour Sandy Island tour this past week. Our guide was Paul who was very knowledgeable about the history of the area as well as the plants and animals. We had a lovely paddle along the Black River and various creeks, seeing all sorts of wildlife. Paul managed to get us up close to... More

We are glad you enjoyed your Kayak EcoTour with Paul. I am his father, and I am still amazed at how he spots wildlife. I know he enjoyed the tour as well. The wildlife is really starting to come out, as the weather warms up. We look forward to your next visit with us. You may want to try the... More

My husband, daughter (age 7) and son (age 4) and I did the 2 hour cypress swamp kayak tour. We have never been kayaking. We used two tandem kayaks and they were easy to use. The guides were amazing and very knowledgable. We got up close with a lot of wildlife. It was amazing. I was kind of worried about... More

Paul and I really enjoyed the Kayak EcoTour with your family. Watching your son with the snakes was very rewarding for us. I don't think he ever stopped smiling, during the entire trip. We look forward to your next visit to the area. - Richard More

Our Guide Spaz (sp?) was outstanding from start to finish! Conscientious about safety at all times, full of knowledge regarding kayaking in general, and detailed understanding of the river, its historical significance and biological diversity made this one of the best ever. After kayaking in Costa Rica and other parts of the globe, would highly recommend Black River Outdoors...THREE CHEERS!

My wife and I did the tandem kayak with Black River Outdoors. We chose the 2 hour Cypress swamp tour. Our guide was Spaz and he knew his stuff. We talked the entire time and Spaz told us about the ecosystem, plants, animals, and history of the area. I highly recommend him. We went in the morning at 10:00. The... More

We loved the cypress swamp tour so much, we did the 4 hr Sandy Island tour a couple days later. The guides were very professional and made it extremely educational. They taylored the pace to our experience level(none) and helped us in and out of the kayaks. Paul was determined to catch a snake and jumped in the black swamp... More
