Ok - so I had never kayaked before, but I wanted to try it. I read the reviews of Black River Kayaking and thought - let's give it a shot. My family and I were on vacation - there was seven of us. Chris started out with a quick lesson on how to use the paddle. He and Katie helped... More

We had a wonderful time with Richard and his lovely wife. They are both very knowledgable and patience with our kids. We have a total of 6 kids age between 8-14 and 4 adults. Most of us are first time kayaking and they had a great time learning about the wildlife and kayak at the same time. We first had... More

Frankie and I had a great time paddling with you and your family. Watching the kids in the youth kayaks was particularly enjoyable. We love to see kids paddling their own boats with big smiles on their faces. I love the photo of the Long-Nosed Spider Crab in the Cannonball Jellyfish. We look forward to your next trip to the... Chris and Caity were our guides for the kayak tour through cypress swamp. They made it fun and interesting! I enjoyed learning about the wildlife and trees. They were both very patient and helpful as well. The scenery was beautiful and serene. Highly recommend!

I took the Sandy Island/Cypress Swamp kayak tour earlier today, and had a great time observing all the wildlife and scenery. The wildlife I saw (and guaranteed you will see for the most part) were: - Great Blue Heron (and their rookeries, which are their nests) - Green Heron - Yellow-crested Night Heron - Wild Boar tracks/Coyote tracks/Turkey tracks -... I am glad you enjoyed your Kayak EcoTour with us. I enjoyed it as well. A few minor edits. We saw adult and juvenile Yellow-Crowned Night Heron. The frog was actually a Pine Woods Tree Frog. We saw Prothonotary Warblers (aka Swamp Canaries). We also saw a Rough Green Snake, but that was walking back to the car, so it... More

I went with friends and family (older children) and was very disappointed. When doing this in Kiawah island, it was exciting and few rules were enforced. Here, guides were very restrictive and basically forced us to stay back to explain boring facts about sandbars and grass. Not a way I want to spend my money. Make it fun, and let... More

I'm sorry you did not enjoy your tour. As you can see from our other reviews, you are the exception. I recommend that you try renting kayaks in the future, and paddling on your own, if you don't want to be part of a tour. I would not do this in the Salt Marsh. On this particular tour, if you... Chris was our guide on the 2 hour cypress swamp tour. It was extremely enjoyable. We started out with a quick kayaking lesson and then into the river. We were given frozen water bottles and life vests. Chris gave us lots of cool info about the area and we spotted dolphins, a baby alligator, lots of fiddler crabs and birds... More

This was a fun tour. Paul is a natural story teller and has a great eye for identifying wildlife. He also has a wealth of information about natural science, which made the tour really interesting. It thought it would just be paddling thru the marshes, but I learned tons on the tour and had a great time. Thank you all... More

We took the tour with Mandy leading the way with Kaity as tailgunner. Our family of 9 had a great time with the group. Mandy kept us all entertained with her stories and knowledge of local wildlife. We were able to hold some cannonball jellyfish. Some in our group saw a large loggerhead turtle and a butterfly ray. Numerous varieties... More

Our family (2 adults and two girls 12 & 13) did the 2 hour salt marsh tour. Mandy was our guide and did a great job pointing out animals and birds and explaining about the salt marsh. We saw a sea turtle, stingray, several egrets, herons and jelly fish. Mandy did an excellent job prepping us for the tour and... More

Many thanks to our guide Chris for a great time kayaking on the Waccamuw River. Even though we didn't get to see much wild life Chris made it fun and interesting. He was very knowledgable explaining the Eco system, history and interesting stories about the river. Our group of six had different skill levels on our kayaks, but we all... More
