In addition to attending the various show places in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach some people just like to dance. NMB has many places to dance but seven places that really concentrate on the shag - the SC State dance. Although I have danced in all of them my favorite is Fat Harold's on Main Street.. For those unfamiliar... More

My husband and I are ballroom/Latin dancers and have been in search of a nice dance floor in myrtle beach for a long time. Fat Harold's did not disappoint. The floor is spacious and the DJ's music was perfect for us to swing, hustle, cha cha, and even a foxtrot! Plus the drinks were super cheap. It wasn't crowded at... More

Fat Harold's Beach Club has a wonderful dance floor and has free instructions for the southern dance called Shag. Some call the Shagging smooth rock and roll. O.D. has the famous Shagging on the Sand weekends. Large crowds gather and dance or hang out for 3-4 days and nights. Some dancers that shagged as teenagers 50 years ago return and... More

Great place to listen to some beach music and shag! Sometimes hard to find a place to sit down if you're looking for a table but we were here to dance anyway so it didn't matter.

This place is so much fun if you like beach music and especially if you like to shag. Drinks a little high but oh so comfortable.

After growing up watching Shag the movie in the 90s I was dying to get to myrtle beach for the last 20 years! I finally got there and was sad to know that many of the movie shooting locations had either burnt down or were destroyed in a hurricane. I was worried that I wouldn't get that old time shag... My wife and I come to dance here every year because it has free parking for Fat Harold Customers only, not crowded, free entrance, not rowdy because the patrons are mostly middle age and some boys and girls before 10:00 PM. The only thing we do not like is that these young people should not be around in this place... More

My wife and I are swing dancers and this place is the birthplace of "the shag", kind of a stepped up variety of swing. I think we were there too early in the evening because there was hardly anybody there. But, I have to say this is a classic dance hall. There's lots of memorabilia and the dancers who were... More

We went on Tuesday night. At 7pm they have lessons on the "shag", a dance native to the Carolinas. Enjoyed learning some basic steps and had a few laughs. Bar drinks available for purchase. Was fun watching the experienced dancers throughout the evening.

On a Sunday afternoon during SOS, Fat Harold's holds an auction to benefit Camp Kemo...there was a good turnout today and the spirit of generosity was evident in the bidding...all for a very good cause!! Several local performers came by to sing a song or two, the bar was open and the grill serving delicious bologna sandwiches!!
