You have to pay to enter the park but can cycle on its roads and on the beach itself at low tide. There is a free kayak launch north of the park and the marsh is a great place to paddle. Be sure that the tide is close to high.

Wife and I toured this state park recently and we enjoyed the scenery, wildlife, and viewing areas. Site contains both fresh water lake, salt water tidal pools, mash lands, and Atlanta Ocean beach areas. Quite a variety of different landscapes, all in one location. Great area of walking, both inland and on the ocean beach.

The beach was so beautiful! Nothing but miles of sand and ocean, we loved it! and we loved exploring the spanish style mansion as well! Definitely worth the low fee to visit!!

Whether it is for strolling the beach or exploring a Spanish style mansion, this state park is worth a visit. Our stop was in conjunction with a visit to Brookgreen Gardens. Earlier, this property was part of the Huntington estate. What an unusual house! Laid out in a way suggestive of Spanish influence with its four sides surrounding a large... More

This beach is very nice as it is further South and away from all the madness at Myrtle Beach. Quiet beach, clean and you may even spot a gator in the marsh. Atalaya is also a treat. Plenty of parking , walking trails.. just a great spot along the Grand Strand.

very nice..and peaceful beach. Plenty of space on the beach. A lot of parking. I like this beach due to its remoteness=makes for a delightful time. If you like shells, come on here. History buffs will like Atalaya. Very nice gift shop. Plenty of trails to observe wildlife. Alligators can be see here. All sorts of birds. The kids enjoyed... More

We enjoyed walking the beach at low tide and no problem finding shells. Then walked on boardwalks to go into Marsh areas and saw egrets, kingfisher, cormorants and lots of ducks and gulls. Highly recommend this as a great access to the water in the area.

We live here and love the fact that we can zip around on our golf cart, ride our bikes on the great bike path that takes you through the woods, take amazing wildlife photos, spend the day at the beach or a relaxing walk to the Jetty's. The alligators here are very bold and make viewing them a breeze, but... More

We spent a delightful afternoon walking along a wide sand beach that was simply wonderful and not over run with people. Wish I could go back!!

This park is very clean and had pristine white sands. I visited this park with a group of friends and we laid a blanket out and had a nice picnic. Nice quiet break from the touristy parts of Myrtle Beach.
