Busy busy busy beach. Couldn't move around because of all the people. Water and beach was nice though. Free parking a plus too.

Pretty easy beach to access and not so badly crowded that it's unbearable (like so many other public beaches).
Place is always crowded. Most excellent selection of shops. They have an ice cream shop there. Homemade. YUM!!! Love Black Rock Mineral store there. Tons of great rocks. My son always picks something up there. T shirt shops. Restaurants.
Hilton Head is working to make the public access to their exceptional beaches more attractive and the work done here is lovely. But parking and crowds still diminish the experience. If you are coming and not staying where there is good beach access be aware that the plantations try to hide their mandatory public access points. But they are there.
We came in the evening for a walk on the beach and I was disappointed at the number of washed up cigarette butts, trash, etc. Changing areas and splash park looked nice, but I'd choose another public beach area.
The best place on the island for tee shirts, trinkets and people watching! Lots of stores, gift shops, restaurants and bars. We didn't get to the beach even though it was right across the street but it looked good from what we did see. Lots of things to see and do and most walkways are covered from sun or rain.

The beach is very wide in the afternoon when the tide goes out but there are so many people & quite often dogs, that it feels like people are always on top of you. I prefer a bit more space. Also, people aren't very considerate...

So crowded! Too many people for families. The infamous tree is great for pics, and the splash park is fun. But I would recommend you try one of the other beaches instead!
We took our boys (ages 11, 8 and 4) to the beach just about every day. It was perfect for evening rides on the beach or early morning walks! We played there several days during the day as well. We drove our vehicle and were able to park in a free parking lot close by. We took our own umbrella...
