This is where we go to find the best seashells on the island. Today we found over 20 shark teeth and after a storm last week found two huge knobbed welks. Most times you will have the beach to yourself. Go at low tide to find hermit crabs roaming the mud flats. Great for walking your dog as well.

Hate to write this review as I love how quiet and serene this spot is and don't want it to change once everyone finds out about it. I have been visiting the Island for more than 10 years. Love the hustle and bustle of the beaches but sometimes you want a little peace and a more natural location. This isn't... More

This is a fantastic park for enjoying nature. There's plenty of beautiful scenery and an amazing number of birds. We visited in the winter and saw many, many types of birds. There is lots of beach area to walk and explore. We saw a dolphin as well. This beach is so quiet, peaceful, and beautiful that we returned twice during... More

This is the place... I almost hate to give it a 5 star excellent rating. We went to this beach per the recommendation of the activity director from our resort, as place to go look for shells. Considering there are NO shells on the main beach, there are a few on this one. We were able to find enough to... More

We really enjoyed this peaceful place. Wonderful views of the marsh and distant ocean. The path to the beach is nice, but not your typical beach. Little fiddler crabs, hermit crabs and beautiful birds well outnumber the people. Not really a swim able beach, but the beach combing is very interesting for youngsters. Once we found it, we've been back... More

There aren't a lot of places off the beaten path in Hilton Head, but this is one of the best. Not a lot of people, incredible sunrises, lots of creatures in their habitat. I loved this place, it is peaceful and quiet. I hope they keep it the way it is....

At this point, Mitchelville Freedom Park is mainly a gazebo out on a pier that overlooks salt marshes, and walking trails down to the beach at Port Royal Sound. You will get a small slice of the history of African Americans in Hilton Head. It is worth trying to find this place if you want to get away from the... More

While there's not much going on here at the moment, we were still glad we made the short journey. It adds to the historical perspective of Hilton Head. I'll be anxious to see how much progress is made towards recreating Mitchelville. I'd sure come back to look.

Not much to do or see here. It may have some historical appeal to some that have a connection to the area. Otherwise, it is isolated in time, space, and connections to the fuller history of the island.

Limited facilities and space, no activities. Beyond some emotional appeal not much to justify it as a destination.
