This Refuge is a wonderful place to visit and is free of charge. The Visitors Center, with a small gift shop, museum and short video, is open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. The Wildlife Drive and the several trails are open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. You can just drive slowly along the... More

The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge has a nice visitor's center (with exhibits and a gift shop) and then, down the road, a four-mile drive through a nature preserve. If you like nature and would like to see the low country by car (with some walking trails) you would like this preserve. If you are looking for an arcade-type atmosphere, this... More

There is a 4 mile drive (free to public) that winds through the refuge. It's a slow ride on a dirt road, with nature on both sides, and a guided audio tour on the radio is available as well. If you are in the area or driving past, definitely take a few extra minutes to make this trip. If you... More

Nice refuge, we were too early for migratory birds. But it was a nice peaceful 4 mile drive through nature. We did see many local permanent birds & a few gators sunning. Would like to return when the ducks & geese arrive. Also a very nice gift shop & welcome center, be sure to visit. There's an 11 minute movie... More

A four mile ride through the preserve with spots to pull off, and trails to traverse. Birds, birds and more birds...two bald eagles in a nest...and alligators sunning themselves in the water. A wonderful journey!

Being avid birders and spending a week vacationing in Savannah led my friend and I to come here. We stopped at the nature center first to ask about the trails. After a brief discussion with the woman at the front desk while looking at the trail map we elected to take the Tupelo trail to the Kingfisher Pond. The trail... More

Beautiful ride thru some awesome trees and canals along side the road where you can view all kinds of birds and alligators etc. Gets really buggy though. Mosquitos ran me back into my van. Probably a good time to go is when its cooler weather. Beautiful area.

This is a great wildlife refuge. See alligators, blue heron, etc. We stop here every time we're in the area.

This very large wildlife refuge is a real treat! Right off of I-95, we stumbled across it in 2012 and have gone back every fall! You could drive through it maybe 45 minutes -- but why would you? All kinds of large wading birds, hawks, Bald Eagles, gators, and thousands of ducks! A really beautiful place to birdwatch. The road... More

While driving down Hwy 17 saw the sign and pulled in. Glad we did. A free visitors center with lovely film and exhibits, also took the free drive through the preserve, saw 5 alligators, ( you have to look carefully until you get the hang of it) snake, turtles and learned much about early life here too. We had the... More
