Alligators dive, osprey and eagle fly, Cap'n Rod tells all about rice plantations... OK he left some stuff unsaid.

After seven days of rain and 60 hrs. of work on the Ark, it was such a pleasure to go with a group from the CCU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on a Cap'n Rod's Tour of the historic rice Plantations around Georgetown. The day was balmy, a breezy 74 degrees with a warm sun; the rivers, Pee Dee and Waccamaw,... More

Our captain, Doug, gave a great narrative on the rice trade and the work the slaves did clearing land and digging canals by hand plus working the rice fields. Quite an amazing accomplishment. The plantations we saw were in the far distance and barely visible from the boat. The island for shelling made for a fun adventure however, it was... More

This trip was full of stories, both historical and funny, learned alot about the old rice plantations and Winyah Bay...how islands were made by old shells, how the rice plantations were watered with fresh water on top of the salt water at high tide...shelling at the tip of the island was nice and picturesque. Our family really enjoyed this trip... More

This is about a four hour tour of the bay which takes you by a few of the historical plantation sites. You then get to see the lighthouse from the bay. You do not disembark the boat where the lighthouse is located, but do get a few photo opportunities. You then spend one and half hours on Shell Island which... More

This was a fun way to spend a three hour boat tour of the plantations. However, I was a bit disappointed, in that they advertised as a "plantation tour", so I was expecting to be able to get out of the boat, and actually tour a plantation house or two from the Civil War era. However, all we could see... More

Took the whole family out, and had a great time shelling on the beach, walking around the island. Rod gives a great and humorous spiel about the history of the plantations and lighthouse. Overall a great experience.

We took this tour back in April, our first time to South Carolina. The tour was great, and captain Rod and his wife were terrific. I would highly recommend for anyone visiting in the area. We have already booked to go back to South Carolina next year and look forward to doing this tour again!!

We took the plantation tour, and we DID learn SOME new information. I felt that we were discouraged from standing, and that was the only way to see anything besides grass. It was very cold in late October; we are from a cool climate and thought we'd be fine. But if you do go, take very seriously the admonition to... More

My husband always goes on this tour with his family when they go to Myrtle Beach. This year it was my turn! We had Captain Doug, who was a hoot! I learned about the rice plantations of the area, and the interesting facts that went along with them. Also, they waited for a couple to arrive which I thought was... More

My wife and I took the plantation tour and really enjoyed it. Cap'n Rod is very knowledgeable of the area's history. The tour took 3 hours and meandered up river past many plantations. The mossy oak trees lining the rivers made the tour very picturesque. Next year we may take the lighthouse tour.
