I was in town to see It’s Alive by Kirk Hammett (of Metallica fame). I liked how they organized the exhibit by putting the old movie theater posters in one section of the museum and the artwork and guitars in another section of the museum. I also saw the permanent art exhibits which occupies the second floor of the museum. There was a variety of artwork from different countries and time periods. You can definitely spend two hours here if you take your time looking at the exhibits. I definitely recommend visiting the Columbia Museum of Art while you’re in town.

This museum in the downtown historic District of Columbia is not large but is jam packed with great art. We spent about 3 hours discovering Basquiat, Chihuly, Warhol, Remington, Monet, Winslow Homer and many more artists, some unknown to us but extremely gifted all the same. The entrance fee is very reasonable and a small price to pay to enjoy such a terrific afternoon of artistic endeavors . Well done!

At the urging of friends, we accompanied them to the museum for a Van Gogh exhibition. The first thing that struck us was the enormity of this museum. The second was the small but informative Van Gogh exhibition. I have always loved Van Gogh and to ha ve such an exhibit in this relatively small city if SC is pretty amazing. After touring the Van Gogh exhibit, we moved to some of the other rooms where there was some pretty amazing works of art. We ended up in the very nice cozy gift shop and escaped with out spending a dime. This is an amazing gallery and one every resident of the area should visit.

My sister and I were delighted to get to see this excellent exhibit of Van Gogh and his Influences at a museum in easy driving distance from our home. There were several beautiful Van Gogh works and a number of works by artists that influenced him. Everything was well presented and I would highly recommend it. There are not many days left to see it, but if you can, you won't regret it!

My husband and I both really enjoy this museum. It has a nice permanent collection and some great art collections on loan. Since we moved to this area recently, we decided to buy a museum membership as we plan to frequent the museum often. I definitely recommend checking it out!

As a Van Gogh fan, I was anxious to see this exhibition. And while I enjoyed it immensely, in the end I was left wanting more.

The insights into interactions with other contemporary artists was fascinating, and I learned a few things I did not know. The other artists works were wonderful, but finding only one Van Gogh I was truly familiar with was a disappointment.

The museum itself is a little gem.

There were several paintings that I loved so I was hoping to buy reproductions in the gift shop BUT there was no gift shop! What a mistake made by someone in charge of museum matters. How much revenue has been lost since the shop was closed due to Covid? Might be a good idea to do analysis of that situation. The space left empty where the gift shop used to be is definitely not creating a valuable revenue stream. Now, as far as the art that populates the galleries-If you are fond of entirely black or entirely white canvases lauded as valuable art you are going to jump for joy when you view some of these emperor has no clothes examples. However, for those who lack appreciation for contemporary trash that poses as meaningful expression, there are some beautiful classical works to enjoy. I visited during the Impressionist exhibition and I have to admit that although a number of those paintings were as drab as molasses flowing downstream, I found several that were inspiring. Paid parking was easy across the street and the air conditioning on a hundred degree day was pleasant. A few galleries were closed due to a plumbing issue that required repair.

Drove over an hour to see the Van Gogh show.at the museum. The show consisted of 12 pieces of art, mostly pencil sketches done by VanGogh. Spent most of the time in the rest of the museum.

I am just amazed that a city the size of Columbia (yeah, not that big!), it is incredible that the Van Gogh exhibit is here. It is truly incredible. I was told by one of the docents that this is the largest collection of Van Goghs every assembled in the United States. As he explained it, they have been working for years to borrow single paintings from Museums all over the country. Plus, two gentlemen from Aiken, SC have acquired pieces that relate to the Van Goghs on exhibit. It's right on Main Street in Columbia. If you are gutsy, you can go see the Exhibition and then from 10:00 to 1:00 on Saturdays, go to Soda City; it's a street fair with lots of food and vendors. Great time!

I was thrilled with the great exhibit on the 1930's horror films by Hammer and other. It also included manikins dressed in original costume outfits worn by Bella Lugosi and Boris Karloff. A great collection !
