Well worth a visit to this historic State Capitol. In particular, the Chambers have a historic feel to them. Slightly surprised to see the Confederate flag prominently flying outside but this is part of the local history.

The tour of the State House is free and the tour guides are helpful and friendly. Also, check out the gift shop. The gift shop employees will give you information about attractions and local information. They even gave me a free map that highlighted some of the popular sites. I was very impressed that they seemed to have created this... More

I went on Saturday for a tour, and found that security, at least on that day, is fairly tight at this state capitol. Visitors were only permitted in five minutes before tours, and were closely supervised. The capitol is very beautiful and distinctive, but I was a bit dismayed to learn that admission to the Legislative Chambers is offered on... More

Didn't do the tour, but explored the grounds in the early morning hours. Many monuments and tributes to many individuals and events of SC History. Grounds are beautiful, well kept, well lit at night, and well interpreted. Peaceful and well worth a visit. Next time I'll stick around for the building tour!

Had to opportunity to tour this state house on our way to Hilton Head. We bought the state capital book in the Richmond, VA gift shop (most capitals have the book in the gift shops!) and will try an collect a stamp at all of the capitals. This was our third stamp!! The tour was wonderful. I prefer the capitals... More

The SC State House surprised me with its beauty inside! They now give tours on Saturday -- and they seem to be very popular and fill up. So if you really plan on touring on a particular day and time, show up more than just 5 minutes before. (I'd say probably more around 20-30 minutes before.) The tour is about... More

Visited the State Capital of SC very awesome. Loved the marble, architecture, and Southern hospitality! I thought that TX was a historical state but the Eastern Seaboard is much more than I expected. Loved SC and GA.

I am a history buff and I loved the wood work. If you are interested in how the Legislation works, call & you may be able to observe.

I always like to go to state capitols and tour them, wherever I live and visit. The SC capitol building was refurbished and restored in the mid-90's and is beautiful. The tour is very interesting. The statues and monuments on the grounds are interesting also. As the Cradle of the Confederacy, there is a strong Confederate influence; e.g., the metal... More

Standing tall in the middle of all the modern buildings was a beautiful work of art. We were actually in the area for dinner and stopped to take pictures. The granite columns are spectacular!
