The site where the actual Hunley submarine is being preserved and studied is a little out of the way but fascinating to go to. It is also only open on weekends for tours, so plan accordingly. However, the sub is there for all to see from above, and the guides and were versed in the history of the sub and... more

The H.L. Hunley museum was a highlight of our trip with our 8 year old daughter. It was awesome for her (and us) to see the beginnings of the submarine and the crews (and their stories) that went with creating the first sub. The staff at the Hunley museum was very informative and friendly. We left there with a renewed... more

About a 15 min drive north of down town Charleston but worh it. Very intersting and informative volunteers. The vessel is in a tank so you go up stairs and look over into the tank. Some panels have been removed so you can see in. We went on Sunday 8/30 at 3:30 and walked right in without reservations. Not that... more

Our family recently visited the remains of the Hunley as it rests under scientific research in North Charleston. There is a museum and tour. Very interesting and will give you a full sense of what these soldiers experienced. Very knowledgeable tour guides who volunteer their time. A must for all who want a better education of this important historical artifact.... more

If you are planning to visit Charleston, do yourself a favor and plan to see the HL Hunley. It is a bit outside of the main tourist sector of Charleston so you will need a car or a cab to get there, but it is well worth it. The exhibits are well done, and the highlight of course is the... more

This was my second visit to view the Hunley. It is a very touching experience. Very good tour, though I wish it was longer than 20 minutes. We combined the tour with a visit to Magnolia Cemetery where all the crews are buried. Only about 3 miles away. It can be a little tricky to find, take a map or... more

My husband and I went to the Hunley exhibit in April. It is located at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in the Charleston Navy Yard , bldg. 255. We purchased tour tickets at 1-877-448-6539. Since we love American history, this was very interesting. We hope to go back some day when it is out of the preservation tank. We also... more

First off, I'm amazed that it seems the Hunley isn't already listed as an attraction in its own right. When we went to Charleston recently, both our walking tour guide and our hotel concierge told us not to go to Ft Sumter because it is just a zoo of tourists, and really just a pile of bricks. Part of me... more
