The Ravenel Bridge is impossible to miss when in Charleston. It spans the Cooper River and connects Charleston to Mount Pleasant, SC. It provides some very nice views either on or of the bridge itself.

The bridge at least goes somewhere but it is an addition to the skyline from virtually everywhere. The lights were not working on my last visit but it is usually lite thematically for certain holidays.

Sunday morning or afternoon, this is the best place to be. Great walk, run or ride. The bridge is always full of those out for fresh air and views. A personal favorite,

Larger version of Boston's Zakim bridge; it's a bridge; very photographical from many angles; best from Patriots Park on Sullivan Island

This bridge is beautiful during the day and at night even more so lit up and dazzling like a fine jewel.

I grew up driving across the old Grace Bridges with their grated road beds that were frightening. The oldest was built for cars the size of Model A Fords. Yet, I saw them as a type of lace draping across the Cooper River. The idea of them replaced did not sit well with me. A new bridge for Charleston? On... More

If the weather is nice, treat yourself to a great walk over the bridge. A couple of miles to the whole thing, do what feels good to you. Walk a little so you can eat more later at all the good restaurants.

A great view (although Charleston isn't a place of expansive... More
