Al Miller is an excellent historian and a very entertaining and personable tour guide. He took our group of 21 women on the 2.5 hour City and Island Tour. It was perfectly insightful and full of sites (get it...Sights and Insights Tours?). Al had a great mixture of history and anecdotal stories that fit well in the context of that... More

We've been back home a few days and can't stop thinking about this tour. We're so happy we took it and balanced our understanding of Charleston. Al is knowledable, delightful, honest and charming. We took the Porgy and Bess tour, so he even sang for us -- beautifully! We had no idea that Porgy and Bess was based on Charleston... More

My two girlfriends and I did the one-hour Charleston tour. The time flew by and I would have loved to have had time to do the longer tour. Mr. Miller is an excellent tour guide: knowledgeable, entertaining, interesting, engaging. I really valued hearing a Black perspective on Charleston history. Highly recommended for everyone from teens on up.

Al Miller is an excellent tour guide. He knows the area. Is responsive to your requests, and has this canny ability to interpret what you really want in a tour. We had our tour customized, and we got exactly what we wanted with some surprises thrown in. We were 6 women on a Fab 50 plus girls birthday getaway weekend.... More

Art Miller took us on an amazing journey through the history of Charleston. As the website says, the tour "covers Charleston's ubiquitous African American history. You'll see and hear about: Emanuel AME Church, Catfish Row, City Market, The Battery, Old Slave Mart Museum, Site of the Hanging Tree, Aiken-Rhett House, Stories of Gullah Culture, Free Blacks, Denmark Vesey Slave Plot,... Al Miller of Site & Insights Tours provided us with a wealth of information on black history, slavery, the Gullah Geechee Culture, Catfish Row (where George Gerschwin was inspired to write "Porgy & Bess,") James & Johns Island, the 1400 Year Old Angel Oak Tree, etc. Mr. Miller gives so much of himself in his tours, such as sharing his... We got with Al Miller and took a two and a half hour motor coach tour of downtown, James Island, the Old Slave Mart Museum and everything from the City Market to the Battery! We saw what influenced George Gershwin's opera "Porgy & Bess". This opera is about the life of the writer and native Charlestonian, DuBose Heyward. We later... More

A very informative and excellent 2.5 hour tour by the owner, Al Miller. My friend and I took this tour on a whim as it was a rainy day in Charleston. Mr Miller gave you historical facts and information for the complete tour. The highlights for me were a stop at the 1400 year ol Angel Oak Tree and his... More

My husband and I took the Black History/Porgy & Bess Tour with Al, and we enjoyed every minute of it. Mr. Miller has a wealth of knowledge, but his delivery makes you feel like you are spending time with a fun friend. I would suggest taking this tour on your first day in Charleston. It will give you a deeper... More

This is what I had been looking for! I desired to take a tour that incorporated more African-American history. Mr. Miller was very knowledgable, sang to us, spoke in the Gullah language & pointed out details other tours omitted -we also traveled to James Island, which was a bonus for me. I highly recommend & will take another of his... More
