A great venue for theater, opera and chamber music

I was in Charleston for the Spoleto Festival and heard chamber music there in the morning, and opera one night and theater another night, and they all worked well in the theater.

Spoleto 2013 venue for chamber music first time certainly not the last. Everything one could ask for IMHO the balcony is the best position. very convenient location walking distance for most of the hotels lots of restaurants for before or after.

Very interesting theater with an interesting past. One piece of history shared by our tour guide for the walking tours of Charleston, was that a drunkard actor who performed there, had to be watched so he didn't go out to the bars and get too drunk to perform. That actor was none other than the father of John Wilkes Booth.... More

This historic American theatre may not be the first theatre in the U.S., as it claims, and it is MUCH restored. Still it remains one of the all too few examples of early American theatres, and so is worth the visit just to see its interior. I attended two events at the Spoleto Festival's American branch at the Dock Street,... More

We saw A Midsummer's Night Dream here on Monday and were charmed by the beautiful and intimate theater. It's nicely updated and comfortable as well (some old theaters have tiny, uncomfortable seats). The courtyard is simply a wonderful place to spend some time before the show or to spend intermission.

This is a semi-miraculous, lovely restoration of a beautiful theater that was a totally destroyed shell in the 1930s -- another miracle of Charleston's loving care of its most precious spaces. Wonderful acoustics -- we heard chamber music as part of the Spoleto Festival. Find a reason to go.

I have had season tickets since we came down 6 or 7 years ago and I have never been disappointed with a show....from musicals to dramas I have loved them all. Look forward to each show and can't wait for the next season to start up

Small theater in the middle of the historic district. It is an intimate setting for some fine performances. Beautiful courtyard to enjoy during intermission. Balcony seats not as good as those on the main floor

Dock Street is a wonderful old theater with a lovely outdoor courtyard for drinks before the show. The talent is the show was excellent, the director did an excellent job casting. The sets were ok, production numbers were very good.
