We truly enjoyed the civil war walking tour done by Jeff (employed by Jack). Jeff was really good. I don't know how Jack could be better. For 2 hrs. we learned alot about Charleston and its life during the Civil War. It was a great walk never to be forgotten. more

Before our trip, I read the other reviews and travel books which described the depth and breadth of Jack's knowledge of the history and architecture of Civil-War era Charleston as well as his warm and intriguing presentation style. They were absolutely right. What I can add is that my kids, aged eight and ten, loved the tour and walked up... more

I'm a scientist and history was, by far, my LEAST favorite class in school. However, visiting Charleston changed everything for me (well, I'm still a science nerd) and now not only do I love Charleston but I love learning about history, thanks to Jack Thomson. He is, as someone described, like an eccentric college professor, kind of smiling when he... more

This was our first tour when we arrived in Charleston. It was fine but after taking a few more in the next couple of days did I realize that this tour was just average. Jack didn't do our tour. Somebody else did and he was just ok. What makes the tour is the person doing it, not what you see.... more

We took Jack Thomson's Civil War Walking Tour in November, 2008, and were very pleased that we chose this tour. Jack is very knowledgeable about the Civil War and told us many details of the war and life in general in Charleston in that era. We walked over cobblestone streets, by rows of historic mansions, in a park with numerous... more

We took this tour due to its high rating previously on this website. Although Jack is obviously knowledgeable about the history of Charleston, I was disappointed in his presentation. He started asking us what we wanted to hear. I would have preferred if he just got into his presentation and maybe adapted it as we went based on questions that... more

My husband and I both loved this tour. Jack really makes history come alive by describing everyday life in Charleston during the Civil War. He pointed out architectural features of the houses and the reasons they were designed that way. He has a thorough knowledge of Civil War history from both the military and personal perspectives. I highly recommend this... more

We just got back from our "trip advisor" trip to Charleston. This is the first time we have used trip advisor and tried most of the highly recommended things. We were not disappointed! Our group (4 adults) voted Jacks tour to be the highlight of the trip. He was good, interesting, interactive, and went beyond the call when later we... more

We did so many things while in Charleston (Ft. Sumter, History Tour, Ghost Walks, House Tours), but I believe Jack Thomson's tour was the best of them all (and that's no knock on the other things we did, Jack is just THAT good). He has so much information and really connects with everyone in his group. Walking through town with... more
