Explore Charleston’s piratical past on a tour that begins in one of Charleston’s oldest buildings, the National Historic Landmark Powder Magazine Museum. In authentic costume & accompanied by Capt. Bob, the parrot, Eric Lavender shares stories of the pirates who plundered, partied, and perished in Charles Towne. Eric brings Charleston's Golden Age of Piracy to life with stories of Blackbeard's siege of the city, the capture and execution of Stede Bonnet and other pirates, the romance between Calico Jack and Anne Bonny, and much more! Along the way, learn about the city’s most historical buildings and events. We also offer evening Ghost/Pirate tours and the Charles Towne Pub Stroll. « less

I originally booked this tour as I thought it would be a good way for my 8 yo to hear some history about Charleston and pirates. The first hour was great. I thought the second hour got into too much detail. I found myself zoning out. If you really like pirate history it would probably be more interesting.

As you can see from previous reviews, our other guests appreciate the detail, but I'm sorry that you felt there was too much in the tour. It is a 2-hour, in-depth, history tour, so we do go into detail. Perhaps you and your child would have enjoyed our Children's Tour more. It's specifically geared toward children, is only one hour,... Being a somewhat of a history buff and pretty well versed on Charleston's history, I wanted something different and interesting. This tour delivered more than I could have expected! I am a local and usually don't do the touristy things. However we had a fabulous time playing "Tourist in our Own Town" when my 75 yr old father in law... More

My wife and 8 year old daughter went on this tour with Pirate Eric, late in the evening and it was the best Ghost/Historic tour of Charleston we have ever been on. Eric tempered the tour to the younger audience but kept it extremely interesting to everyone on the tour. At several occasions the tour had interactive components that really... More

My husband is a big history fan and we went on a lot of tours while in Charleston, including the Old Wall tour and civil war tour. I, personally, love learning about the history of pirates, so I was thrilled when this tour was filled with stories and facts about different pirates throughout history. It turned out that this tour... More

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I'm glad that you and your husband enjoyed the tour! So many people associate Charleston with the Civil War, that the city's earlier history sometimes gets short shrift. We love sharing the city's earlier history! Sabrina More

We recently took the pirate tour of Charleston with Eric and Captain Bob. We were amazed at Eric's extensive detailed knowledge of all things pirate - great stories and great history lesson. I was initially worried that the tour would be full of young children and would be too childish for my 16 year old daughter, but it was past... More

We're so glad that you enjoyed the tour! Thank you for posting the review. You're absolutely correct in saying that it's not kids tour. While it is family friendly, it's not targeted at young children. We recently did add a tour just for young kids, though. It's much shorter, and incorporates a treasure hunt and foam rubber pirate swords. Fair... More

Had a great time with Eric on the pirate/ghost tour. My youngest son is still repeating the stories. It was one of the highlights of our visit. Will definitely take another tour when we come back.

We did several tours while in Charleston, and this one was our favorite by far. Eric and Captain Bob were fun in their costumes, but what Iwe liked best was the heavy historical content. This is not a campy, touristy regurgitation of Hollywood pirate tales. It's two hours of interesting and accurate historical information and pirate life and times. Eric... More

This pirate tour was just awesome! And the best tour in which I ever participated. Eric is an excellent story teller and kept everybody's attention to the maximum. If you are thinking about going on his tour, think no further... just do it. I promise you won't regret it!

This was a fascinating tour. The guide was extremely knowledgable. There was so much information, we really had to pay close attention which wasn't difficult because he made it so fascinating. The tour cost my family of four $71.50 (2 adults, 13 year old and 12 year old). My daughter walked away wanting books so she could learn more -... More
