My wife and I have been coming to Charleston for years and we have yet to find a better tour company. Carolina Polo's warming and inviting staff were prompt to sort any problems that we hit. Our booking was simple and reasonably priced. When we got on our carriage, our tour guide filled us with good laughs, insight int the... More

Knowing no better (we now know there are 5 companies), we booked a tour by carriage at the Visitors' Center in Meeting Street, which turned out to be with Carolina Polo. They don't give you a time slot at the Visitors' Centre, so you have to go down to the meeting point to book a slot. When we got to... More

I work for a travel destination management company. After finally being able to find a carriage company in Charleston, I was quite displeased with the service they provided to me and my client. It seems to me they cannot accept or handle 'pre-payment', as they forget onsite that a credit card number was given to pay for the tour. Also,... More

I'm a history buff, so did quite a bit of reading about Charleston's history prior to our visit to this great city. However, hearing John's telling of the tales in his rich South Carolina accent made it such a unique and rich experience. His wealth of knowledge went deeper than a memorized script.

I have been to Charleston many, many times and always thought of the carriage rides as "touristy." I could not have been more wrong! It should be your first stop upon visiting this lovely city. It might help you decide what else you would like to do while there. I think there must be more than one company in Charleston,... More

For about $20 per person, maybe $25, this is a good tour to take real early during your visit to Charleston because it'll cover most of the Historic District and introduce you to the major sites, which you can later go back and visit in detail. The carriage drivers are cordial and professional. They must pass a detailed test on... More

Phil was our driver and as a Charleston native was a wealth of historical information. Wonderful job, Phil! Yamassee was our handsome horse who took us through the beautiful streets of downtown Charleston. We were amazed by the relationship that Phil and Yamassee seemed to have........great experience to watch them work!

There are hawkers on the streets across from the market selling carriage tours. Although they don't undersell each other, there can be significant differences in the wait between tours (15-20 mn for some, as much as 30-40 for others), comfort in boarding (boarding dock as opposed to a step ladder on the sidewalk). You can't pick your guide so that's... More

Our guide Daniel was terrific. As he put it, his tour may not be politically correct but it is historically correct. Daniel did a good job of representing different points of view as he discussed Charleston's history. He was also really entertaining and did a great job fielding questions. We saw a good cross section of downtown Charleston, from the... More
