Discover stunning architecture, glorious gardens, Civil and Revolutionary War sites, cobblestone streets, wrought iron gates, legendary graveyards, and the local flavor of the fabled “Holy City” that no one knows better than Michael, who grew up in the famous "South of Broad" area, and has written two popular books on Charleston, where his family has lived for more than 215 years. Great introduction to Charleston. Michael is a clear and knowledgeable orator. The two hour tour moves at a good pace and introduces many hidden places in the town. Very worthwhile.

Great tour of Charleston. Michael was very knowledgeable of the history of Charleston and shared many little known stories of how the neighborhoods we toured came into being. The walking tour allowed us to see locations around Charleston – “up close and personal”. I enjoyed seeing the interiors of the churches.

This is a great tour to get a complete overview of Charleston's history and society. The starting point gift shop is easy to find and accessible by the free trolley. Also, there are lots of great eating spots nearby for a pre or post-tour meal. Michael is a wonderful host and provides the perfect balance of historical info, local perspectives... More

Michael's tour was fantastic, and provided such a unique and informative visit through Charleston, especially for first-time visitors. What was great about the tour was Michael's energy, attention to each participants names and hometowns, and his own experiences of growing up in Charleston. We saw some of the major sites, but also a lot of great residential areas where we... More

Michael, being a seventh generation Charlestonian, adds a real personal touch to his information- laden walking tour. The tales of his youth living in South of Broad made the historic district come to life. His knowledge of the plants, and trees and architecture and history was as enchanting as it was interesting. Take the tour, you will really enjoy it.

Hands down the most generally informative walking tour we have ever taken. Michael speaks rather quickly but very clearly. He has nearly an untapped wealth of data about Charleston dating back to its founding. He does a remarkable job keeping the walking tour interesting and entertaining. He has so much information that you need to ask your burning questions as... More

We took this tour on a Monday morning. Michael was terrific. He is a 7th generation Charlestonian and he knows every detail about the city. Michael kept the pace brisk but he took us to several of the most important sites in the city. He is A-1 at his job and we really enjoyed our 2 hours. Start your stay... More

Michael provides just the right combination of fun, basic history and arcane facts. Despite the heat and humidity the tour went quickly with Michael providing tons of interesting data. His personal stories and anecdotes of growing up in downtown Charleston had the group mesmerized. Intermixed with the history were excellent renditions of dialects. This tour is highly recommended.
