Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 – 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner’s 65-acre plantation on John’s Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks. Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).~Look for the Red Sash~ Our symbol of a quality horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina. « less

The carriage ride was great. Our first time in Charleston and it made us want to go back. Our driver and tour guide (Steve) was very knowledgeable and friendly. He spoke clearly and answered questions well. The Harbour tour was fascinating. Our tour guide was a former history teacher who made the subject come alive. The only negative was that... More

I did this trip twice in two days. This was recommended to me by the Budget Car Rental agent and it was great! They have 4-5 routes. The first day I was with a larger group of people and we had Dustin and Fred the horse and were on route two that took us to south broad street and then... More

We booked this tour as part of a trip through the south with my in laws. This was high on my mother in laws list of "things I would love to do". Joshua, and Bill (our horse), did not disappoint. Joshua was very knowledgable about the history and charm of this great city.

We took an Old South Carriage tour on 10/11/14. Our driver, Raley with horse Dave, was most entertaining. We were laughing, relaxing and enjoying a ride through this beautiful city while actually learning. Raley, our tour guide was absolutely wonderful. I recommend this tour to anyone. Great way to see a part of the city. We got discounted tickets through... More

I believe our tour guide was Joshua, and our carriage horse was Amos. This was the first thing we did upon arriving to Charleston and it was a great way to see the city and get some interesting history. Highly recommend Old South Carriage Company.

Awesome way to be introduced in the sites, sounds and history of Charleston. Not only are you being led through the historical sites of the old city in a horse carriage seating up to 14, the driver is a well versed historian (from pre-revolution, through Civil War to the present) who truly enjoy their jobs and their city. Once you... More

Several carriage companies to choose from. Had a coupon for this one so we gave it a try. Great time. Elizabeth (our tour guide) and Bill our horse guide were fantastic. She was a wee young thing and I was a little worried at first, but did she prove me wrong. She was so knowledgeable and funny. I asked her... More
