What a wonderful surprise!!! Last Friday night my husband treated me to dinner and tickets to the Edmondston-Alston House for a candle light tour. It was a rainy night but the staff had umbrellas and there was a canopy over the line outside the door. Our wait seemed short as we talked to staff and others in line. We had... more

This wonderful house is surrounded by dozens of magnificent old homes in the Battery neighborhood at the tip of the city with a wonderful view of the harbor. It's a unbelievable neighborhood and that alone convinced us to take the tour here after we had a hard time deciding which house or houses to tour. The guide was good and... more

Edmondston-Alston House is the oldest mansion along Charleston’s high battery, and offers fantastic views of Charleston Harbor. Confederate General Beauregard certainly thought so, as he and his friends witnessed the first shots fired on Fort Sumter from confederate controlled Fort Johnson on the piazza of this home. Many of the original Alston family furnishings and treasures grace this lovely old... more

Interesting, beautiful house to visit. Knowledgeable guide. Would have been interesting to see the kitchen and slave quarters but those are now a B&B. A little pricey for only a 1/2 hour tour. more

I've been through several of the historic houses in Charleston, SC, but have never been entertained as much as on this great tour. Every room in the house had a different tour guide (if not several), who spun colorful stories of what life was like during the civil war era. The house was full of antiques and great artifacts from... more

Since Charleston is such a desirable place to visit, my husband and I have a revolving door of company. One place we always take our guests is to the Edmonston-Alston House. Nestled among private mansions on the famous Battery, we are thankful we have one to show them. Once inside, knowledgable guides welcome us as in the days of yore.... more

recently went to the Edmondston-Alston House and was pleasantly surprised to tour such a lovely historical home. I learned a great deal about the family history of the home and the staff was extremly knowledgeable about the history. The home has many antiques and furnishings and the home is very well maintained! This is a must see when traveling to... more

We bought a combo city tour on 07-22-08 and this was the home that came with it. The home itself was nice, but nothing special. Our tour guide for the home, Cindy, gave us the diluted history of each room that was open, which wasn't many because the current owner lives on the 3rd floor. She then she proceeded to rush... more

There are many historic homes to visit in Charleston and I can't imagine this one being top on the list. There are great views from the second story veranda but little else. Our guide, while pleasant and knowledgeable, seemed very rushed. I wondered if she was trying to speed things up and dumb down things for the ignorant. The guide... more

My girlfriends and I stumbled upon it and decided to stop in. The wait on the porch was comfortable, the tour guide very friendly and the history of the house quite interesting. I loved it and would definitely reccomend a visit! Be sure to try out the "rocker" on the porch. more
