The earliest graves are from the Battle of Port Royal, where the Union troops captured Beaufort for the duration of the Civil War. The section of graves of the U. S. Colored Troops are landmarks of African-American history, as are the gravesite of the bodies of black soldiers the 54th Massachusetts Infantry (recovered from Fort Wagner outside Charleston -- their... Wreaths Across America provides beautiful Christmas wreaths for all National cemeteries, and Beaufort National Cemetery is no exception. Dec 13 we were honored to be among 1000+ people who gathered for the memorial ceremony and the laying of wreaths. People can pre-purchase wreaths and even dedicate the wreaths to a particular service member who is buried there. The cemetery is... More

My grandparents are buried here and so it is a special place for me to visit. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the cemetery is full of history. With the overhanging mossy oak trees, and the nice driving path, there is a sense of pride and peace as you ride through. Make sure to read the markers and special headstones... More

What a treasure to have in our state. Each visit to these hallowed grounds touches me deeply. The grand old oaks with the moss is a beautiful place to rest. We always visit each time we go to Beaufort.

This will make you proud, and sad to be an American. Take Tissues. Our Country's history is in the Cemetery, every war. Soldiers, Sailors, Air Force , Coast Guard, and United States Marines are here. Husbands and wives as well as babies. Being here will make you thankfull.

The cemetery sits behind a tall red brick wall. The entrance is inviting. Seeing so many white markers under the large moss-covered oak trees was beautiful and evoked many emotions. I highly recommend you drive through this National Cemetery and take time to remember those who fought for our freedoms.

We got to the Cemetery at closing at were lucky enough that the caretaker gave us almost a private tour. When you see it, you feel very humble in the company of these people who lay there.

Stopped by the Beaufort National Cemetery to see the grave of a friend's grandfather. There is a guidebook in a sheltered alcove as you enter the gates, so finding the grave for the first time was easier than we had imagined it would be. The cemetery is huge, well maintained, and very impressive. It was interesting to walk around the... More

This cemetery is stunning in the way it is laid out and situated in Beaufort. Acres of simple headstones in curved rows that seem to go on forever. It is very touching and poignant. It would have been nice if there were a map of some sort to enable one to find some of the confederate gravestones.
