The cemetery is the resting place of soldiers from as far back as the civil war and maybe even the revolution. It's a solemn place full of rich history and an important part of the town for local people. If you come to check it out, do the locals a favor and keep your kids under control and behave respectfully.

This is a very quiet place. So many military personnel are buried here. It was laid out in a wheel pattern which was quite interesting. There is a directory if you are looking to locate an individual. It really is beautiful and is a reminder of the many people who have sacrificed their lives for us.

The National Cemetery in Beaufort is a classic military cemetery with graves marked with war dead from both Northern and Southern units from the Civil War. I was surprised by the large number of unknown soldiers (174) buried here who have never been identified.

One of the largest and oldest and most beautiful National Cemeteries in the country. If you check it out or look far enough you can find the grave of "The Great Santini" Col. Conroy, Author, Pat Conroy's father and many other heroes

A wonderful old national cemetery, dating back to American Revolution and Civil War. Beautifully maintained. Wreaths for Christmas were laid at many of the graves.

This cemetery just oozes American pride. I love the grave markers for the older soldiers, and the grounds are kept nice and neat. It's just so nice. <3 :)

This large cemetery is one of I think seven in South Carolina. Still in use as a veteran's cemetery, it was established after the Civil War for (mainly) Union casualties. Union casualties are laid out by State and demonstrate just how devastating the "War Between the States" was.

While in Beaufort do go here. A beautiful well kept cemetery, with so much history. Very moving to see all the graves from the Civil War. Grouped by state, it is eye opening. So many unknown soldiers who lost their lives. A must see. You can really spend some time here.
