When the Arsenal -- also known as the Beaufort Museum -- reopens it will probably be a visitor center. Brief history: 1798 - the Arsenal was home of the Beaufort Volunteer Artillery. 1852 - renovation in preparation for Civil War (these guys planned ahead). 1860s-1960s - Used by Union troops, then became the National Guard Armory.
