I should have attended the regular Slater Mill tour before going on the Ghost Tour. I was hoping to find out the importance of the mill to the textile industry and to this area of New England, in addition to any possible ghosts. The Ghost Tour was led by two guides, identical twin brothers, and an assistant. There were about... More

Samuel Slater learned about textile manufacturing in the UK and came to Rhode Island to create first textile mill in America and thus begin the he US Industrial Revolution. The guides give it to you straight, telling bout the conditions of child labor, the harrowing accidents that happened to old and young alike, and explaining the basic workings of the... More

This had to be the worst ghost tour ever. It started 30 minutes late. The guides were dressed for Halloween and did not discussanything about the spirits and who thet were and why they were there. Only their personal feelings. I give this tour two thumbs down and eight fingers. My 20 dollars would have been better spent on pizza... More

We did the holiday ghost tour. The tour started late with no apologies. The guides were dressed in hokey costumes that had nothing to do with the mills. There were three buildings but only the guides personal stories were related. They interacted among themselves to the detriment of their guests. No one was told who haunted the buildings or why.... The setting is gorgeous and the subject is fascinating. But somehow the tour was... disappointing. We attended the night time ghost tour, hoping to get some ghostly fun and a few legends, mixed in with history. But it turned into lots and lots of rambling. The tour guide was long-winded, even though we were standing outside in the dark and... More

I visited this mill site on Columbus Day 2008 and thought it was a free weekend so I was unprepared for the $10 tour charge. (There is no notation anywhere on any of their websites that there IS a fee or what it costs). I did not take the tour but wandered around the grounds and enjoyed looking in the... More

My children visited this place for a field trip. I don't know any other way to say this, but the staff was rude. It was poring rain outside and this 10 person group was told to wait outside because there were too many students already in the building. It's not that this group was late ... they were right on... Slater Mill displays lots of history about the industrial revolution. Some background history might be a good idea to make the trip worthwhile. More

My husband and I visited on opening day, May 3, 2003 with our 5 year old daughter. We all had a wonderful time! There is something for everyone! My husband enjoyed the water mill and the actual machines it ran upstairs. My daughter loved the house because they showed her what children, her age, in the 1830s would use and play... More
