Although born and raised in NY, I have been in NC for 20 years. Visited some extended family here, in JULY and FROZE! For a real beach experience...go south! Way down south.

We have been going to Scarborough beach since I could remember. The sand is kept very clean. No hassles with parking. Nice places to visit close by after a day at the beach.

Go to the beach in single digits.. with 8 inches of snow on the ground? You bet! The salt breeze and drifted snow make quite a juxtaposed picture to tantalize the memory and senses.

the beach is beautiful - the waves are big - when everything works right - it's wonderful. However right by the ruins of the old stone barn there is a kind of overflow pond that smells to high heaven. today we learned that the beach is closed because of high bacteria count. So, we rented three condos on the ocean... More

I grew up going to Scarborough State beach with my dad & brothers. As father I regularly took my wife & kids there multiple times each summer. (We live about 2 hours away in CT.) The quality of the sand & surf are great at Scarborough, with an expansive beach of soft sand. The pavilion features private changing areas and... More

We have been going to Scarborough Beach for years -- since our kids were little. It's a narrow beach, so it can be crowded on hot weekends. Weekdays are much quieter. The water can be very calm or have some nice waves. The beach faces Southeast, so as the sun gets lower in the late afternoon, it goes behind you.... More

The Good: Scarborough Beach is a nice balance of open surf and protected cove style beaches. It has good waves for body surfing and boogie boards although not quite as long a ride as Narragansett Town Beach. It isn't a lake either, like Roger Wheeler State Beach, better known as Sand Hill Cove. It has a sandy bottom with few... More

This beach is very clean and pretty well maintained. They have a snack bar available along with showers and restrooms. We were there on a weekday and can only imagine how crowded it gets on a weekend. The parking lot is close to the beach and that was convenient.

$20 to park and they do not provide any soap in bathrooms. How can the kids that work at the snack bar wash their hands??? Needless to say, customers can't either. There is a $500 fine for littering and they do not provide pails for trash. Worst of all beach was not clean. Lots of seaweed on sand. They do... More

It's a large, wide beach with a couple of large covered pavilions. The facilities have running water and there is food and beverages for sale. There is a broad walkway which runs the length of the beach and is great for people watching. The beach can get crowded but despite the crowd, you will always have several feet between your... More
