Great place to visit. Follow the trails go to different talks about bees, whales, fauna and foliage. We go there at least 4 to 5 time a year to listen to lecturs or just take walks. Nice shop and smal but interesting museum. Free

Ninigret is an amazing ecosystem and worth learning about. If visiting southern RI put it on your list to see.

Normally we don't take the time to walk many trails, but we were glad that we took the time to get out and walk around. Not only was it a beautiful walk it was very interesting history too. (We skipped the visitors center and went right into the Wildlife Refuge) You have to pass by the park and all the... More

Visitor Center personnel were very knowledgable and friendly...told me about Ibird app for my iphone. I followed 2 trails one leading to a beautiful view of the water from a sturdy observation tower.I also went to the Charlestown Library because they had WI FI there and could download the app The library was also welcoming to visitors and a pleasure... We live just a few minutes from this nature refuge, activity center, observatory, historical site and all around place for families to enjoy time together. This park was once an active air field for national defense during WWII. Today there are still some remnants from this era preserved for future generations to learn from. There is also a kayak launch... More

On a recent vacation we had the opportunity to stop by the Kettle Pond Visitors center. It's an excellent resource for nature lovers but in particular children. My children (8 and 5 years old) had a blast inside the visitors center and it was hard to drag them out to the trails. There are numerous activities targeting children (crafts, coloring... More

Living here in South County RI, we are blessed to be only a few miles from Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge. This area was an old airfield during WWII but has slowly been restored to it's old natural habitat. It's a large wildlife refuge with 2 parts to it. You can enter either side by car and either hike just part... More

There are several easy hiking trails around the Wildlife refuge. Very nice views with some signs explaining the history of the region. If your close by, it's worth the stop.
