The estate mansion and its history are fascinating, but our main interest was the gardens, which cover many acres and include such spectacular species as giant sequoias -- many derived from the seeds or cuttings of the origin small planting, which now towers over the estate.

I have been here at several different times during the year but their Christmas display is not to be missed. Each room is decorated so beautifully. Their is caroling and a bonfire with hot chocolate for the kids outside. We all left really feeling the spirit of Christmas.

We loved this place. The house seems warm and cozy, unlike the marble mansions in Newport. Lots of wood help make it feel that way. Each room has excellent explanations about the room and the self-guided tour was easy to do. The weather the day we were there was drizzly so we didn't really explore too much of the gardens.... Loved Blithewold. The gardens are gorgeous even in Fall, with some wonderful specimen trees and beautiful flower gardens. The house is stunning in a lovely understated way. You can take photos in the house and the rooms on 2 floors are open to the public. They contain some lovely pieces and each room has information on the family and the... More

We went to the mansion at the request of a client, to view the arboretum and get a glimpse of the vision of the creator of this wonderful place The specimen trees, winding pathways and the various gardens throughout the extensive acreage are truly impressive! They are a testament to the long range view of the owners, that a tree... More

What a surprise find in Bristol, Rhode Island. The mansion gardens were designed by the same person who did Central Park in New York. They even have Sequoia Trees. A tranquil and lovely spot on the water to relax and enjoy.

Visiting blithewold is a reminder that not all those who took their holiday in this part of the world had a grand Newport mansion. Blithewold is a family home, lived in and welcoming and none the worse for that. With its attractive garden surrounds a visit fills a half day most effectively.

Blithewold is a very nice mansion to visit in Bristol, RI. It's not a big as the Newport Mansions, but a real house that a family lived in. In addition to the mansion tour, the grounds are very large and impressive. There is an extensive collection of trees and plants for all seasons. Located on the bay, it also has... More

As you wander through this mansion you find areas that you can imagine shooting pool, playing music, enjoying a good book in the comfort of your own home. The part that most attracted me was the stairway with the sitting area - I could imagine curling up with my Kindle and reading for hours. My husband and I spent even... More
