Blithewold is obviously the home of a wealthy family, but it is not pretentious or overpowering. The decor is subdued and the house feels light and airy. Note the staircase. Its all about the view. Each room contains printed information and docents offer further insights. The grounds are also well designed with a great lawn, as well as wooded paths... More

We were hosted here for a corporate event which was truly spectacular. The home itself was truly beautiful. At one time it was scheduled to be demolished but was saved and turned into a fabulous place to visit. I was truly in awe of the home and ground. The view from the back of the home across the expansive lawn... More

My wife and I loved this place so much that we signed on as members. This was our first visit and we could not believe that we had not visited before! Hard to believe that this location is #2 on Trip Advisor as it deserves to be at first place! The daffodils and tulips were stunning! Thanks to Gail who... More

We stopped here at the tail end of a trip to Providence. The grounds were done up for Spring with thousands of daffodils. It was so beautiful and the grounds are very well-kept. The gift shop staff were incredibly friendly and let us know that we could enter for free since it was a Bank of America museum weekend when... More

We visited Blithewold for the first time last Sunday, when the daffodils were in full spectacular bloom. The grounds and gardens, overlooking Narragansett Bay, are wonderful -- a huge expanse of lawn and a number of different garden environments, with beautiful trees and bamboo. Some recent reviewers have compared the house with the Newport mansions, but I don't think you... More

My wife and I visited Blithewold in mid-April for Daffodil Days. Although when we arrived the daffodils had not yet bloomed, we were still more than excited to see green grass and the few early flowers that had bloomed. As many have stated, this home is much smaller than the mega-mansions in Newport, however it is still a great sight... More

I went with friends to the Daffodil Days Afternoon Tea and had a very pleasant time. The tea and the warm scones, cucumber sandwiches and the other goodies were well presented and yummy. The setting for the tea was of course delightful being right in the mansions dining room. A nice treat to take in with friends. We then walked... More

I hesitate how many stars to give this listing because I found myself comparing this to other historic homes and properties in Newport and along the Hudson River. I decided I would rate it on it's own merits rather than as a comparison. It is a lovely house and the gardens are beautiful and extremely well tended. My one wish... More

Bottom Line: More understated than the Newport mansions but just as nice to visit. Details: We visited here in April after accidentally finding out about it online. We love doing mansion tours and this was a nice departure from the enormous mansions we were used to seeing in Newport. We were too early to experience Daffodil Days here due to... More
