The Block Island Historical society should be on every visitors list. This little museum has so much information on island history. From the Indians who originally inhabited the island to a full geneology of the white settlers. There are lots of photos and postcards and articles from the 1800's when the island had it's first tourist boom and so many... More

Block Island has a great deal of history, and the historical society is a good place to learn more. There are hundreds of photos of old Block Island, the buildings, and the people. The building is not air conditioned - and can be hot on a warm day. And the collection is quite cluttered. But still - stop in and... More

I certainly enjoyed the museum tour that added unique insight to the Block Island history. They even gave me some free post cards! It is close to shops and places to dine.

There is a small fee to enter but to us it was worth it in order to learn more about the origins of Block Island. The only thing we were slightly disappointed in is that it is a self guided tour.

My husband and I wanted to learn about the history of Block Island; we were not disappointed by the experts on this topic at the Block Island Historical Society, and learned much on this topic...not only is it a great vacation venue, but it is rich in interesting history, and thanks to the information we received, we are now "experts"... This is an interesting little museum. It's like pleasant Block Island overall--not gussied up and touristy. Some interesting maps and a little maritime history.

I was looking forward to seeing more nautical items and information about the early settlers on this island. The first room was decorated with many photos and a powerpoint presentation repeated the photos actually hanging on the wall. There were some great photos, but the descriptions were short. The house is old and in disrepair. The displays look more like... More
