Roadside Attraction

If you are traveling I-79, stop for gas in Meadville. If for no other reason, you can take in the awesome installation.

Attending a graduation from Allegheny College, I drove past this en route to hotel. This is a wonderfully creative use of old signs. Love the collaboration between PennDOT and Allegheny students to create and inspire! MUST SEE when in Meadville!

Read Between the Signs is located along Route 322 on the outskirts of Meadville, PA. This is a fence mural created out of old road signs and built by art students from Allegheny College. What an ingenious way to recycle and to hide an ugly lot! I believe many of the scenes depict local places and people. If you’re in... More

If you happen to be in the Crawford County area, this is a unique attraction. I won't make a special trip for it, but it's a nice addition to the roadside.

It makes me smile that this seemingly ridiculous piece of art (yes art) is becoming what Meadville is known for on an international level. I remember the first summer it was started, and for many years after we watched them add to it each year, it was exciting to see what aspect of Crawford County Culture they would capture that... I think it says a lot about a place when this is its #1 attraction. It's not really beautiful, or clever, or interesting, or funny. It's not an eye sore, or boring, or rude. It's not even quite kitsch. It just is. You can look at pictures of it, or you can go see it for yourself. It's pretty much... More

While I live out of state now, I grew up in the community and still to this day think it is just weird. Creative art, I'll give you that, and they do have some neat designs, but it still doesn't take away the weirdness that it is basically trash, or that awkward moment when you realize it is in the... Food was very good, and lot's of it. Wait staff was very nice and helpful. Great location right on the lake and the place was decorated for the holidays very nicely.

Made by Allegheny college students, it's a cool art piece with a Meadville theme, using street signs. Would love to see more of it next year!
