The Central Market is a place where tourists visit thinking they will experience Lancaster county; they will discover that as a market it does not offer what Lancaster truly represents; interestingly it was strawberry season and the strawberries being sold were from California (two different vendors); in addition the products were extremely high in price. I've lived in Lancaster County all my life & still enjoy going to Central Market - it is an historic location (1889 building) with lots of different foods to pick from. I recommend finding the Mean Cup for a cup of coffee prior to making your way down each aisle. We usually go through once, then back the opposite direction.... more

Park in the parking garage on Orange street. Any stand holder will stamp your parking ticket if you buy something, for a free hour of parking. This market is full of local color and there are numerous different ethnic food stands. There really is no flea here. This is a real farmer's market--I enjoyed the variety of produce, plants, home-made canned goods, candy, and more!
