First off, the male docent was extremely well versed in the history of the house, it's inhabitants & the Lancaster area. He gave a load of information, but it wasn't boring by any means. The house is located in the middle of a very pleasant park.

We were the first tour of the morning. Without a GPS, I don't know if we would have found this treasure. It is tucked way back in a very large park. Clean pota potties are available in the parking lot. A small gift shop is at the end of the tour. Great antique pieces that aren't generally seen. Loved the... More

We were bound for Lancaster to attend an evening performance at American Musical Theater, but left home early to spend the midmorning at Rock Ford plantation. Living below the Mason Dixon Line, we have had a good bit of experience visiting southern plantations, and were drawn to Rock Ford in part to satisfy our curiosity about a plantation so deep... Interesting house/ plantation tour. Enjoyed the beautiful & expansive grounds. If you like history, you'll love this tour. One room was left untouched from the state it was in when renovations began in 1956. Very interesting to see that.

We were looking for something to do before leaving our weekend Lancaster trip. We found out the Rock Ford Plantation was open on Sunday so we went. It was a very nice experience. We basically had a private tour with an excellent tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The house was lovely with tuns of history. It is... More

Rock Ford Plantation includes the home of Revolutionary war General Edward Hand. Tours or the furnished house are available. The grounds are extensive. They offer an event barn, perfect for weddings and other receptions. There are volunteer opportunities available. It is located on the southern edge of Lancaster city, in the central park.

Revolutionary era home in outstanding condition. Docent, also museum curator, most knowledgeable of history of family and home. Home has pieces of furniture and jewelry whose history can be traced to original 1700s owners. Bonus: 3rd Sunday of each month the kitchen is fired up using recipes of the period. We attended a wedding at this lovely historical site. The house and gardens are beautifully kept, and the docents are in period costumes and very well informed. The barn is a beautiful place for a wedding reception as well.
