Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway offered a train ride out of the town of Jim Thorpe. My wife and I along with another couple took the 25 mile trip. It was a pleasant ride and all along the trip you saw kayakers along with raft outfitters. By riding the train you do save your muscles. The trip is up the grade.... More

Nice ride in open-air car, around 1 hr, could be included into Jim Thorpe visit; good location right next to parking lot

We did the open car on a hot day and it was worth it both in viewing and having a breeze. Narration like many other trains is a problem since the overhead speakers can't keep up with the noise and the personal car porter can't be heard except standing next to you. The station is also air conditioned and in... More

What a delightful 60 minutes! The open-air car allows the traveler to see everything, and moving around from side to side is not only allowed, but encouraged. There is plenty of time from the announcements to the arrival of vantage points to allow movement to occur. The staff is knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. I highly recommend this... I go out of my way to experience tourist railways and this was was a delight. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout. The scenic ride was enhanced by Mary the conductor(ess) in my coach as we were the only occupants, so I got a personal guided tour of the line along with extended conversations about a plethora... This is a great place to take a train ride along the mountain and learn about the railway that runs through Jim Thorpe, Pa. Price is reasonable and it last about 1hour. Many other thing to see in the area as well. Check out the Old Jail House with the hand print on the wall. And the Harry Packard manor.... More

Very nice hour long ride alongside the Lehigh River. Try to get a seat on the side of the train facing the parked cars. Spend a couple more dollars and get the open-air car.

The 1-hour excursion is filled with beautiful scenery and lots of great info from the crew. Great for families - dog-friendly, too, if 4-legged members of your family are with you. We love the open air cars.

We went back to Jim Thorpe for our children to be able to ride the train. It was a great trip and my children loved it. It is definitely a must do if in the area.
