Our guide Jack is a 5 th generation Islander, has guided over1600 groups up Mt Gower and was excellent with stories and local knowledge. Being aged 70, I decided to stop ascending at the spot called "The Saddle", at approx 500 mts up. Not wanting to hold our team up, I was quite happy to rest there for lunch and... More

A tough walk due to the steep rough track but what a fabulous privilege. Happened to be there with the providence petrels and had a Attenborough like experience. Jack Schick was a terrific guide

Hard climbing and a real physical challenge on steep sections with knotted ropes for assistance. The views and sense of achievement make it well worth the effort, especially if you emerge from mist and cloud into sunshine and a clear panorama.

I had done a reasonable amount of research before the climb which I took with Jack Shick as the guide . Jack leads with a steady pace and with my reasonable fitness for a 62 yr. old I found it very enjoyable. A couple of tips I would give to anyone contemplating , which I did not have would be... Jack Shick's skill was to know when to give us a break. It took from 7:30 at sea level to reach the summit at 12:00 and we were back by 4pm. Reviews are correct in that a reasonable level of fitness is necessary because the steepest parts do require an amount of pulling yourself up on ropes. Coming down is... More

What a climb. We didn't do this whilst we were on the island this time but it has been done. the guides were very patient and helpful. Certainly views to die for and to see wildlife that is nowhere else in the world is just something else. A very difficult climb and takes all day but something that will never... More

You can only climb Mount Gower with a guide. We did it with Jack Schick, a fifth generation islander, and had a fantastic day. It's an 8 hour hike with narrow ledges and ropes to assist ascents/descents but Jack is very aware to travel at a pace that the group can cope with. (You do need to have a fairly... More

Having done no research into this climb I had no idea what I was in for - rated one of the world's top 10 steepest climbs - they're not kidding! You must be fit, have a head for heights, and not have any knee issues. But what a sense of accomplishment if you make it - they views are to... More

Well I have only been back not even 24 hours and my quads are still killing me!! This bush walk is stated as one of the hardest in the world..... and my legs agree. It was tough, it was steep and it was up hill. But as in life the hardest things to get through have the biggest gifts at... More

I have recently returned from a most wonderful stay on lord Howe Island, an idyllic island to which I will one day return. During my time there I climbed Mt Gower and as such I am now the 'proud' (read foolish) owner of, not only a certificate that confirms that I did so and survived, a multitude of grazes and... More
