As someone who's a bit of a ghost and history buff, the Monte Cristo Homestead has been on my bucket list for a fair while. I really enjoyed visiting this extremely interesting house. Guided tours during the day are no longer offered due to changes of circumstances in the family who own and run the homestead, so my partner and... More

I did the dinner tour and overnight B&B stay at the house. I found this house and its grounds beautiful and was fascinated by all the stories. The hosts were lovely and knew a lot of history about the house. It was lovely to be able to go and experience this private residence.

I went to the Monte Cristo during the day on Sunday, I was by myself in the court yard near the old maid quarters and I heard a sound so I just thought "take pictures u never know!" So I did, I walked up to the old building and took photos as I approached the entrance, I didn't see anything... More

We were very disappointed with our visit... Very hard to get that eerie feeling of it being haunted when the owners vacuumed the floors the entire time we were there. Lovey house, furniture and gardens, love the history of the place. And I managed to get another fridge magnet for my collection!!

I am a paranormal investigator living in California. I visited the Homestead about 6 years ago by myself, and had such a positive experience, I wanted to bring my husband this time. He is not interested in anything paranormal, but we still had to pay for the ghost tour for him, which he did not go on. $400 for dinner,... More

Was looking forward to the visit but the guy who welcomed us rattled off the history so fast we couldn't take it in. It was quite expensive to go inside and they don't take cards which drained our cash supply. The house is nice but not well maintained. Some groups had a tour guide but we were left to our... More

Went to this with much anticipation. The welcome at the reception was good but that's where it ended. After making our way to the front door we rang the bell and were ushered inide by an elderly woman who mumbled directions and that was that! There are no written signs anywhere telling of the history and the whole house needs... More

This was the purpose of our whole weekend away, to meet some ghosts. Unfortunately I didn't meet/feel any ghosts. Straight away when you are met at the gatehouse by one of the family, you know that they love this old property. We were met by a daughter, I didn't catch her name, but she did have memorable flaming red hair.... More

Really embarrassed to have this place listed as an 'attraction' in my region. The $12 entry is much too steep. The disappointment begins when you are shuffled along a side path up to the grubby side of the house then around to the front door, instead of entering through the grand front gates and seeing the beautiful front of the...
