What a great thing to do! The National Park will save Byron from being completely overrun by development.

This land parkland is beautiful and right on the beach. Arakwal National Park is jointly managed between the Bundjalung of Byron Bay People (Arakwal) and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). The Arakwal National Park Joint Management Committee brings together the Bundjalung People with NPWS and Byron Shire Council representatives to provide advice on the management of Arakwal National... this is a great place to go for a quiet walk or take the kids out on their bikes as it is safe and away from all traffic, you can access the beach several times on the track so if you feel like a swim go for it !!!!

We walk some of the trails that weave their way through the Park and enjoy the sand between our toes, but we are mindful of snakes which we see occassionally near the trails. The park borders on Tallows Beach which is wild and wonderful but can be dangerous for swimmers. No dogs allowed, unfortunately, but the wildlife seems plentiful and... More

Arakwal National Park is only 2km from the Cape Byron lighthouse or via the Tallow Creek access. Not as interesting as the Cape Byron Conservation Park and the light house trail, but there are a few nice views and birdlife/ wildlife in and around the area. You can also spot some of the hang glider's from the local hang gliding... More

Initially a bit disappointed because there seemed to be a short sandy trail through scrubby bush and nothing more. But even though the walk only took approx. 30 minutes we saw lizards, wallabies, echidna, and a black snake right in front of our feet!
