The view from the Lighthouse is amazing. Hike from Wategos Beach up to the Lighthouse. Lots of viewpoints and photo ops along this trail. Saw migrating humpback whales when we were there. Visit the most easily mainland point in Australia.

As others have said the paid parking is annoying, however there is free parking for those capable of walking up the hill, which we did. The walk around the lighthouse and down to the point is spectacular and well worth the effort.

I reached this place by walking from town along the boardwalk next to the beaches with some great views from high up looking out over the coastline. While I didn't actually go into the lighthouse (I didn't see any obvious ways or signs to get inside nor did I see anything advertised), I got some nice photos of it from... More

A good place to star would be to visit the Cape Byron visitor information centre and have a chat with the staff. The lady there will help you with all the sights, walks and other information all close. The Cape Byron walking track to the Lighthouse, is particularly enjoyable through part rainforest with beach and cliff top views all along... More

I would say that I prefer Norah Head Lighthouse because of the ease and free parking but this one is more crowded. I saw many surfers around so that might be a reason to implement parking. But the view is still great and a relaxing atmosphere.

I know that there is paid parking if you want to park within the conservation area up close to the Lighthouse, but really, the money is being well invested. The conservation area up here is kept so well by NSW Parks and Wildlife. Beautiful boardwalk and bike path that walkers share up to the lighthouse. The walk is relaxing and... More

So beautiful and to gaze out to sea and have a pleasant (lots of steps though) walk up and down. Great place for 360 degree views and pix :-)

Lovely track for bikes and walkers just stay to the left if walking uphill and keep your kids close to bikes can pass safely. Great view at the end and its a good loop around of about 2 klm
