Despite a miserable rainy day, we still did the kayaking. The tour guides were really good, and knew their stuff. Funny and entertaining. Be warned though, if you book for a set number of people, all of those people must turn up. This activity books out quickly, and if someone doesn't turn up, you still have to pay for them.

After a bit of a shaky start capsizing in the kayak (thank goodness for the helmets and life-jackets!) - it's really quite difficult to get out over the waves, especially not having done it much before - I swapped my kayak partner to be in with one of the guides and I was very glad I did ... as I... It was easy enough to arrange this, as we were walking distance from their hangout. We turned up, were duly relieved of our money (cash as there were no banking facilities on the beach). Obviously, the three hours trip included all the preparation, waiting for others to turn up, getting the gear and dragging the kayaks to the water (and... More

My husband and I went on a three hour kayaking tour with Cape Byron Kayaks in Byron Bay, in November 2013. We chose them because their giant print motto is "Kayak With Dolphins!" Although the experience of kayaking on gently rolling water once we got out to the open sea was enjoyable, and the scenery of mountains, cliffs and beach... More

Even in the rain, the trip didn't disappoint. The guides were friendly, helpful & informative. It was an exhilarating morning that included an urgent (yet fun) paddle out into the surf, the close sighting of several pods of dolphins, to the floating about as a turtle swam past & under us. The ride in, surfing the waves, even had our... More

Good fun physical activity which wasn't too hard for the family. We saw dolphins in the distance but were strongly encouraged to come on another trip for a closer look. This hardly detracted from the fun we had though. Very friendly staff!

Having taken part in the kayak experience today, Tuesday the 7th of Jan, 2014. My memories are pretty fresh. From the inherent misogony, general lack of care for people in distress, lack of actual knowledge of the marine life, lack of dolphins in general, unwelcoming 'banter' and an overwhelming sense that the guides just wanted to get you in, get... We went as a family of 4 on Tuesday and even the 2 teenagers were impressed. It's only a short way down to the beach with the kayaks and we were assisted. We had great weather and an easy paddle. Off Watego's we saw loads of dolphins at play, slapping the water and jumping. We would have enjoyed the kayak... More

Never Again What a terrible experience this day was. Firstly they had to change our booking from Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning which was fine but they forgot to pick us up from the hostel and we had to call them. When they picked us up they rushed us down to the beach and didn’t even give us chance to... More

The mixed reviews here broadly some up my experience. The guides are hilarious and fun to spend time with but we say 1 whale in the distance and 1 head of a loggerhead turtle. I went to see dolphins but none to be found. It's true that you have to carry very heavy kayaks up and down to the beach... More
