An amazing underground mine with oodles of history, set in a delightful demesne in the heart of rural Cornwall. An open air museum with lovely gardens, picnic lawns and a leat and ponds dating to 1493. Site of a Scheduled Ancient Monument and an interesting museum and collection of machinery.

We thoroughly enjoyed the mine tour because it was led by a knowledgeable, personable, humorous guide. I last visited around 10 years ago with my small children who enjoyed the tour - but more particularly the sifting for "jewels" in the sand pit - which I was sorry not to see. The place obviously needs a lot of money and... More

A group of 7 of us (4 adults & 3?children) went to and found the tour of the mine really interesting with a very knowledgable tour guide ... However for 7 of us it cost just short of £100 and we were there 1 1/2 hours !! The surrounding buildings, cafe, play area and gardens have had no attention or... More

Thanks for coming to see Poldark Mine and Open Air Museum. Its good to know that you found the guided mine tour so interesting and informative - so at least we are getting that part correct! The price including VAT for the underground guided tour for 4 adults and three children is only £75 and not the £100 you mention!... More

We visited Poldark MIne today and had a fantastic experience. Overall the attraction needs some TLC but the mine tour was absolutely brilliant. Our guide was so informative and the mine was so full of atmosphere. The history of the place was fantastic. Will definately go back next time we visit Cornwall and we hope the rennovations over the winter... More

Incredibly informative and interesting tour giving a great insight into not only the working mine but the lives of the miners. A real gem.

We went to the mine not knowing what to expect, safety helmets were provided and needed. The going underground was through narrow passages and down steep stairways. It was wet under foot and quite cold so take appropriate clothing and footwear. The tour was by an x miner who explained things very clearly. It was clear that the mine as... More

This was a very interesting destination, The guide was knowledgeable and spoke with a calm and authoritative voice. I'm glad we had safety helmets on as some of the ceilings were quite low. The visit brought home the working conditions that Cornish Tin miners had to endure long ago

The outward appearance of the place was a bit tatty, but this could have been due to the fact that it had only recently been taken over by new owners. The mine itself was a fascinating experience. After an initial delay due to flooding, (one of the pumps had conked out!!!), the underground part was quite exciting. The conditions those... More

Thank you for coming to visit Poldark Tin Mine and Open Air Museum. Its good to know that you had an enjoyable visit. We are sorry that we had a bit more water than we should have when you arrived, however such events usually make visits more interesting. We pump rather a lot of water each day - in fact... More

On this year's visit to Poldark Mine we were very pleased to hear that it is under new management and ownership. The new owner has exciting plans for the mine and we were relieved that it has been saved. There is a lot of work to be done but this can only happen with the support and understanding of the... We (two adults and a 13-year old) enjoyed our visit very much. Aside from the mine workings themselves, the site as full of interesting historical material, and the whole place has a real magical quality. We thought it was value for money, but I gather that the site is undergoing major improvements over the next few years, so perhaps some... More

We called in but on seeing the admission prices, didn't stay. £15.00 per adult is a bit steep in our opinion.

What a pity, to have come to see us and then not go down into the mine. The only complete tin mine in Cornwall that you can visit. In actual fact you could have come in for just £1 or £3 - Our price of £15 per person for the underground guided mine tour reflects the costs we have to... More
