"The blue" as its affectionately named by the locals is a historic pub and allegedly has one of the oldest locally brewed beers dating back however many hundred years, which is great. However I would describe the pub akin to a drunk old man. It smells, it's full of locals that are not the friendliest of people and I don't... More

If there is a pub with more character and better beer I would be very surprised. If ever you wanted a defininition of a proper pub look no further than the "Blue Anchor" and as for the "spingo" superb is all we can say.

From the sturdy Cornish granite exterior to the beer garden out back, you won't find a more hospitable, atmospheric pub. I visit Gweek 4+ times a year, and I have to make the pilgrimage to Helston for a pint of Spingo, the ale of the gods, brewed on site. The staff are friendly and the locals will always recommend a... They had a nice range of real ales we went of course for the Spingo, which was fantastic. They have a large beer garden but also, the landlord allowed us to buy fish and chips from down the road and eat them in the garden. How good is that? Fantastic place, a proper pub!

Well, if I said it was brilliant, I'd be inviting yet more punters to fill "my" seats wouldn't I! At the other end of the country is Tan Hill Inn. That's another ale imbiber's holy land, but it's not quite got the Blue's vibe, doesn't brew its own ale and eschews Black Sheep Old (available from down the road at... More

The Spingo Ales are fantastic. Our surf instructor recommended we try a pint of spingo and we weren't disapointed. The Blue Anchor is full of character and we were made to feel very welcome. Brilliant!

Two years since our last visit........just a bit out of our way but we found a parking place and dropped in for lunch. Now this is a real pub,a famous pub for its home brew and atmosphere but add to this good grub at a fair price and it is a place that you should make a point of visiting.

This is just our third visit in over 13 years, but some things you can rely on. A visit to The Lizard or Penzance would not seem right without a call in here for a pint and a fill of our carry out.
