This pub is absolutely amazing. It feels very comfortable & cozy. A good selection of beers (brewed on the premises) & friendly staff. We were visiting Helston, and chose this pub almost at random to go for a drink. We had heard about the pub before, because of its brewery, but we were very pleased with our choice. We hadn't... No question - The Blue Anchor and Spingo are iconic, an absolute must if you're in Helston. But beware: the 'Special' (>6% ABV) is deceptively easy to drink.

stayed for 3 nights in room 3 very bright and airy huge comfy bed at very reasonable rates. Kim the owner cooks a big nice breakfast, the pub next door is a real ale drinkers paradise and is dog friendly. The locals are friendly too watch out for fibber john and his friends luring you into a game of spoof!... More

Claiming to be the oldest brewery in Cornwall and brewers of Spingo ales to traditional recipes, in particular Bragget (brewed to celebrate Helston being awarded a Royal Charter granted on 15th April 1201) this pub is an unspoilt gem. Thatched and hardly changed in donkeys years it is believed to have started life as a monks rest home and upon... More

What a refreshing change to find a pub that actually feels like a pub. Something that's increasingly rare these days especially where I live on the Isle of Wight. An excellent choice of real ales - all brewed on the premises. Terrific atmosphere, nice open fire with a cat asleep beside it. Tiny bars but more space in a couple... More

Took the dogs for a long walk on the sand bar, got lost coming back to Helston and the only thing keeping us going was the thought of a restorative pint of Spingo and a warm up by the fire in the back bar....heaven! We always try to get down to this pub when we are in Cornwall and think... More

Excellent excellent excellent! A beer drinkers paradise. The Spingo Middle I particularly enjoyed. Yes it is a bit of a culture shock when you first enter but hey ho! I was there for the beer and it certainly didn't disappoint. However I was disappointed that I had a bus to catch and that I only had an hour to enjoy... More

We thought of visiting the Blue Anchor last year but we ran out of time. It was top of our agenda for our short visit this year. My wife "insisted" that I try their ale after she had read reviews on Tripadviser. If you like to sample excellent ales you have to try Spingo, I tried the 'Middle' its 5%... More

We spent this weekend in Helston as part of my husband's retirement holiday. We were lucky enough to find that now only does the Blue Anchor do excellent beer (Spingo) but also accommodation. By far the best B & B of the whole weekend with a super kingsize bed and a delicious breakfast. We stayed for 2 nights and were... More
